Hey Guys,

Hoping for a little advice on a decent sub for the driver side single 10" Fox Box.

I have a couple things from a previous install. Will be throwing some Hertz ESK 165's in the front doors and tweeters in either the sail's or the 3.5 stock location...whatever sounds best. I have an Alpine MRP-F300 that I was using in a previous truck that was pushing the Hertz's and was bridged to an 8" kicker cvt. Although I will probably snag another amp (mono) if I move to a 10" sub.

Not looking to break the bank on the sub. This will only be my 2nd install ever, so I don't have a lot of experience with what sounds good in the sub department...although I know that is somewhat subjective. I know my selection will be somewhat based on what is best for the fox box, dimension wise. Not opposed to used stuff either, as long as it was taken care of.

I listen to a wide range of music. Mostly rock/metal, some country, some dubstep/electronic stuff.

Thanks in advance

Justin

Skar is prob one of the better quality "budget" subs and amps you can get. Cant go wrong with that route.

I spent about 4 hours reading through the forums last night. I frequent the DIYMA and Cumminsforum pretty regularly, but a lot of good specific info for our trucks here regarding audio stuff.

I saw the SKAR name come up quite a bit. The few local shops where I live, just carry the "typical" name brands. Rockford, JL, MTX, etc... So no way to really listen to these smaller name brands.

Sundown is also another name that comes up fairly often in forums. But I'm open to suggestions. I'm a fan of the small guy who puts out great products, but not opposed to the big name stuff either.

As far as budget, I'd like to keep it budget minded. Something good for the money. I don't want to throw a ton of cash @ my sub setup right now. I'm just a normal dude that enjoys a decent system, not looking to win any contests or measure how many decibels my systems puts out. Have some other Home improvements I need to do before winter hits also..so don't want to get too crazy with it.

If I'm not mistaken, the fox box can only hold certain subs due to its internal size. I think the alpine type R will fit. I've heard good things about that sub, may even be able to hear one locally

I agree, i think the 10" type r would be perfect. That sub can take a beating, has really good output, but can be pretty musical too. All around a great sub.
Image dynamics, and JBL come to mind as well when it comes to good all around subs...specifically the GTO series, & IDQ series. Have to check measurements tho.

Have to remember cutout size with some of the sub's. Stamped steel baskets work best as they are usually at the right cutout size. Cast baskets tend to be oversized so there would have to be modifications to the opening and that's a pain in the butt to sit and sand theses boxes down. Ask me how I know lol.

Ya...I definitely don't want to have to any "major" fabrication to an already fabricated box. A sub that works, as far as being able to just drop her in and get her hooked up is what I would prefer.

Appreciate all the feedback. I wish someone stocked more of the boutique brands around here so I could take a listen. But it seems like most of them all get good reviews for the most part.

E has offered a pretty sweet deal on a SKAR setup... and it seems like the specs for that IVX 10 match up really well with that single 10 Fox Box.

I'm not an audiophile but I can tell you that I'm very happy and satisfied with my type r. At $130, I can't complain. I just got back from Best buy, they owed me an adjustment to my amp. They were floored by the sound and output. They wanted to know more about the box and sub. Yes I know it's best buy but they do install stereos all day long. They were very impressed which gave me gratification to my budget install.
