I could use any advice from some seasoned techs on this.
Just recently had a replacement rear end put in my truck to address a small accident at my rear wheel and the resulting issue at my rear housing.
Shop is extremely reputable and well recommended. They sourced the replacement rear end as part of the overall workscope. They say the rear end was listed as having only 10,000 previous miles on it.
However, unfortunately, 3 miles down the highway after picking up my newly repaired truck, i had some sort of catastrophic failure in the rear. Pulled to the side of the highway. Wrecker brought me back to the shop.
The feedback i just got from the shop (been 48 hours) is they've determined the slip yoke bearing failed in the new rear end which caused the failure.
My question to the veteran power train guys and girls out there..... this sounds like a failure that could have potentially impacted my transmission as well. However, they've made no mention of any intentions that involve the transmission.
Am i justified in this assumption that this failure could have impacted my transmission? And how do i approach what should, and should not be automatic steps on their part to ensure the truck is good to go. (Basically looking to be able to hold my own as we discuss what they should, and should not be doing right now. And why)
Appreciate anyone that takes their own time to provide any guidance.
