I'm new to this forum and was wondering what your thoughts are on converting my 2011 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.7 from a single exhaust into a dual exhaust. I'm in no way mechanically inclined, so anything helps.I want to have a full custom exhaust, complete with H-pipe and Flowmaster Super 40 series muffler. Just to double check, exhaust goes Headers> H-Pipe> Catalytic Converter(s)> Muffler(s)> Resonator(s)(if desired)> Exhaust Tips, correct?
All parts from holley.com
  1. Do you recommend 2 separate mufflers or a dual in/out muffler?
  2. Do i need to buy 2 catalytic converters? Can i use the OEM cat and a new cat together?
  3. I want all stainless mandrel bent piping, was looking at Flowmaster U-Fit Dual Exhaust Kit Part # 815936, would this kit be worth it?
  4. Considering Flowmaster Straight Tube Part # MB125048 for extra pipe, is this needed? If the Flowmaster U-Fit Dual Exhaust Kit Part # 815936 works, would I still need this pipe?
  5. What about resonators?
List of all main parts I'm considering getting: holley.com
  • Flowmaster U-Fit Dual Exhaust Kit Part # 815936
  • Flowmaster H-Pipe Kit Part # 15920FM
  • Flowmaster Catalytic Converter - Universal - Federal Part # 2250225
  • Flowmaster Super 40 Series Chambered Muffler Part # 9525454 OR Two (2) Flowmaster Super 40 Series Chambered Muffler Part # 952547
  • Flowmaster Straight Tube Part # MB125048 for extra pipe

welcome to the site.
Do you all get checked for headers, etc?
If so, your looking to spend some money fr headers, new cats, H pipe etc.

For simple starters, maybe look at a Flowmaster muffler of your choice. If you already have a single/single, then you can always add a secondary, true dual setup later.
Buying headers, two new cats, 02 sensors, H pipe, and two mufflers with stainless pipe will be expensive.

If you also look at the 16869 setup, cat back form Magnaflow, would be a choice to get you dual tips out back.

Why do you want to go to duals? What are you looking for--better performance or just to look better?

I'd like duals for performance, sound, and looks. I do get checked for emissions if thats what greygoose is asking with "Do you all get checked for headers, etc?"

The reason I ask is because Hemifever's truck which runs in the low 11's is not running dual exhaust. This shows me that a single exhaust can be fast or faster than a truck with duals given that other mod's are comparable.

Agreed, yup, spend the money elsewhere.
Better benefits.

It's your decision, of course and you may not even be looking for contrary opinions but I think it's a lot of money for minimal return - especially since you'll need a shop to do it. Another thing to think of is the rear bumpers on most models of dual exhausts have the little pipe indentations. Will you be replacing that on yours (another cost)? Or will you just stick the tips out from underneath the original bumper? Are you ok with the non-stock look?

You've got to be into the few thousand dollar range. Is it worth it to you?

Im fine with the non-stock look, its what I'm going for actually. I personally dont like the bumpers with the cutouts so I was planning to just exit under the bumper. From what you guys are telling me, I think I should get a muffler for now and look to expand later. Thanks guys! One more question; what kind of muffler do I need? 3" in/out? Offset or center?

I think its 3" in, so check under truck, but maybe 3" in, 2.5" out?
Not sure.
