Sliders?

I thinking about getting a set of white knuckle sliders and was wondering how they are for a step when you don’t have the top plate. I know the top plate obviously make it easier to step on, but it looks better without it. I’m just curious on it feels to get in and out without the top plate.

Has anyone got the Maple (or white knuckle) sliders nine inches wide all the way across? Trying to think of the pros and cons. Think the big con would be fitting through some narrow spots. Thinking it might help protect the truck if you slide into something sooner and prevent some body damage.

I was thinking the same thing plus it would protect against doors in parking lots and keep the mud sling down. The better footing get out of the truck as well.

Yeah, people can bang their car doors on the sliders all they want
I do think the footing would be a little better for the wife and kids (not sure if a huge difference).

only real downside i can see would be the added leverage the wider ones would create. These are stout a f, but it is indeed an 8000-10000 pound truck slamming down on them....

I think if you had the entire thing the width of the rear step area on mine most people would be satisfied with that. But like olyelr said the wider they are more leverage could be created to cause a bend or such

I should have responded to this earlier, but a buddy of mine recently bought the Randy Ellis sliders for his 16 PW. I helped him install them. Probably took us 4 hours or so, but some of that time was spent making sure his AMP steps cleared the new sliders (they do).

The sliders are top notch. Although the install is probably harder than the other options, they are seriously strong. No doubt you could jack the entire side of the truck off of the slider. They rivet to the door sill (maybe 30 rivets), and bolt directly to the cab's pinch-weld with high-grade bolts. Lots of drilling and riveting (we used an air-rivet gun) and made sure we painted all of the holes we drilled (POR-15 i think).

You can order the sliders with a step-tube welded on to use as a step -- which might be a little high to use as a step compared to the others.

Solid, solid product, with great support.

I really don't like that mounting design at all on the RE sliders but to each his own. I'm definitely partial to the frame mounted style.

yep, they have clearance for days. But all the holes drilled and such scares the **** out of me as far as rust from the salted roads around here. We dont need any help turning our rockers into swiss cheese.

Reading the write up about his sliders, I feel like they are reaching a little, Hinting at the frame mounted sliders being weaker. The proof is in the pudding of the guys that absolutely beat the hell out of their WK and Maple sliders in Moab and such. Not bashing on RE but I don't think his statements in his write up on frame mounted sliders for the power wagon hold any water at all. There wouldn't be such a huge following if they didn't work as advertised. Not saying the RE sliders arent tough but I would take write ups from a manufacturer with a grain of salt.

Yes the 9 inches would be the width of the rear step area all the way across. Hadn't thought about the leverage....

The write up is not from a consumer like you mentioned, so the RE will need to be compared to the other sliders on the same vehicle for all three. I’m certain that not frames are ideal for sliders as mentioned in his write up though. And a few smaller trucks have a uniframe like the Honda Ridgeline. Im not saying I’m going to be the test dummy for RE, but I am intrigued.

As am I. I just watched a video with how they are mounted from the underside as well. Looks stout but I don't think they've quite been through the wringer as the "standards". Maybe someone has or will and if so good reviews and write ups will go far. Right now I think the frame mounted boys rule the roost

I was wondering if these would work with the amp steps. Did you have to remove the steps to install the sliders? Ive wanted to have the sliders and step set up for a while now. Nice to know they work together! Any pics you could share?
