Hey guys,
Does anyone know what is needed to (other then the bumper of course) to convert an SLT bumper to the Sport/Laramie bumper?

Possibly nothing. But to be sure you might want to go to a junk yard and either inspect a truck with what you want on it, with what you currently have. At the most the bumper mounts might be slightly different.

I just plasti-dipped mine. It looks good but I'm not real confident that it's going to last. I just like the sport bumper better. Especially the left and right fog light covers look sharp.

If you are talking about the grilled fog light covers, I have some bad news. They will not fit without modifications when you have the fog lights installed. I tried to install a pair in my truck but gave up. Not that I did not want to do the mods, but I was just disgusted they would not fit without being modified.

I'm talking about the left and right covers that go over the stock fog lights. It looks like they hook onto the chrome cross member. But I want the chrome cross member covered too. We talking about the same thing?

There are 2 covers that are used in the hole where the fog lights go. This page shows both:

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Now the one numbered 5 is the one with the little grill type slats. That one will not fit without modifications. The one numbered 4 is what is used with the fog lights. It is pretty much a piece of trim that covers the unslightly gap between the outer part of the bumper and the fog light itself. Some Dodge dealership's carry both of them, but not all.

Never really stared at the chrome bumpers with the plastic ontop but on my sport bumper (which is annoying since it's the only plastic on the truck), it has the cutouts as part of the bumper. The fog lights have nothing actually over them, it is a part of the bumper.

Also, I have a solid piece of metal behind the plastic bumper with an opening for the tow hooks. Might be different then the chrome setup.

lasher10 that bumper might just work. Looking over it, it appears that you may not need the bezels that I linked above. Look through the bumper section of these guys:

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

In actually decided to check out that bumper at LMCTruck. Unfortunately I found out something disturbing. It looks like that is just a cover that goes over the bumper and not a bumper as you and I first thought. Here is the link to it at LMCTRUCK:

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/de/full.aspx?Page=15

If you look it is number 2, and when looking for it's price LMC says it is a cover, which means you may have to get some more parts to make it fit. Although if you look at all the needed parts LMC does have them. If I were you I would check out LMC and see if it is really worth it to get the E-Bay one or get everything through LMC.

ok Megamouse thanks for the help here. So I guess now the big question is whether or not this Sport Bumper cover will fit over my SLT chrome bumper? They show the bumper calling it an impact bar and it has a different part number then my SLT bumper.

Actually the impact bar goes behind the bumper. When you have a plastic bumper it will deform until it hits the impact bar which then will hopefully take the hit and not damage our trucks.

Lol.... Ok.... So does anyone know if the sport bumper cover will fit over the SLT chrome bumper? Doesn't sound too likely. I'm definitely not going to spend the extra coin for this impact bar to shed my chrome bumper which would probably make my truck weaker in front.

Looking at the impact bumper and the chrome premium bumper at LMC Truck it appears they may be the same or very close. You might be able to install the cover over your current bumper but not totally sure on that. Use the link I gave in an earlier post here to check them out. The cover and the premium bumper are only one page apart.

yeah that's what I was thinking but can't tell for sure. Was hoping somebody tried it and could give me a yay or nay. Don't want to buy something and have it not fit if you know what I mean.

I know the feeling. I have bought something only to have to return it because it did not fit. Luckily it was a part that I had bought locally. But larger parts that need shipped from far away I would do as much research as I could before the purchase. Large doorstops that cost a lot are not what I like having.

From what ive read on here, some folks have tried to install the sport bumper over the chrome bumper, with some small trimming modifications, with hit and miss results. I have a 04 SLT Sport and have read the actual bumper BEHIND the cover is different than the chrome one, either shape wise or something else. And to convert it to a Sport the RIGHT way, you would need to replace all the bumper stuff behind the cover with that from an actual Sport. Now again, i think with some small trimming modifications the Sport bumper cover will KINDA fit over the chrome one, but to me the work isnt worth not knowing for sure how it will look in the end.

Thanks for the info RAtmosphere. I think I'm just going to shine that idea and stick with my bumper style. It's plasti-dipped black right now. If that doesn't work out Ill just paint it black.
