Here's one for you... 2019 limited, 6.7, 68 trans. 7k miles. Trans pressurized, blew out dip stick, sprayed on turbo and caught fire. Let's see what my warranty does now! 3-4 miles off road gravel road. 1400lbs 4 wheel camper towing a 2800lbs cj7. End of hunting trip! 20190920_113731.jpg 20190920_113724.jpg 20190920_113735.jpg 20190920_113737.jpg 20190920_113751.jpg

Insurance and warranty may have to fight it out since there was fire damage.

That's called resulting damage and should be covered under warranty. There shouldn't be any fighting or need to involve insurance.

The EcoDiesels are burning to the ground quite often from "resulting damage" and FCA says nope, it's an insurance claim.

Let’s cram a 150,000 rpm turbine in a heavy duty diesel engine bay that radiates 1500+ degree heat on the exhaust side and see what happens when something fails.

1000 foot-pounds of torque though for marketing!

In all seriousness with what you pay and are expecting from these, hope everything works out well for you...

What's the suspected cause of the ED's catching fire? I'm not familiar with the issue.

In this particular instance the OP has an obvious failed component. That obvious failed component is covered under warranty and it sprayed fluid onto the turbo. Therefore, any resulting damage from that should be covered. Should. Be.

I spent many years as a tech at an import dealer. Any time a warranty covered component failed and caused damage, the resulting damage was also covered under warranty.

The EcoD's EGR tube gets plugged up due to a less than stellar design and overheats, which in turn heats up the plastic intake manifold which melts and starts the plastic on fire. I believe there is a little more to it, but that is the general synopsis. The EGR is covered by the 3/36 warranty and since many of the 14-16 MY trucks got the AEM reflash, they have an extension to their warranty that covers the entire emissions system.

Not cool. Keep us updated. A truck that new simply should not have issues.

My point exactly--proving resulting damage requires resources most warranty holders don't have.

What was the transmission oil temp when this happened?
Everything was in the middle is all I recall. I was on paved road for about 20 miles @60mph. The took off on the gravel road about 4 miles, I guess, in 1st gear 10-15 mph (max). Started loosing power. Slowed to put in low lock figuring it must be struggling, looked all guages (all were ok/no trouble lights) because I thought I heard a transmission fan, when I stopped, put in low lock, looked up saw smoke. After the fire there were lights and check engine check trans check brakes check check check going on. At this point and all the looking into this, I think the new transmission has some kind of catastrophic failure. Created heat and pressure some how. Would love to know why. Nothing is built proff and even the best guys can make a defective part from time to time. **** happens. The space shuttle blew up! I'm glad fca doesnt make heart valves!
