07 dodge ram with kenwood ddx418 head unit. Finally got around to messing with my backup cam to kick on every time i shift into reverse. Didn't have the trigger wire installed to the head unit before, so had to hold the function button to see the cam. Ran a trigger wire from back of unit, plugged into wire marked reverse cam, all the way back to the passenger tail light, and tapped into the pos wire on the reverse bulb. Works like normal as soon as i start the truck, but 10-15 minutes after driving the backup screen will pop up randomly, then comes back on when i hit the brakes?? Thing is going haywire, can't understand what i did wrong. Have the camera tapped into the pos/neg wires on drivers side tail light reverse bulb, and trigger wire on passenger light all the way up to head unit. Any ideas

It might just be a loose wire.

hmmm...if it was one of the stock head units I'd say go to tvandnav2go.com and get a pre-made adapter harness. Not sure what they have for the Kenwood head units but they have solved a lot of DVD in motion & rear camera applications.

Just reading online and someone mentioned not to run the video cable and power/trigger wire together. I have both in a small piece of wire loom, could this be my problem, the trigger wire is causing interference and making it go haywire??

Yeah, that may be a problem. I know I don't want to do something similar with any audio/video system. I've seen the interference.

Just re-routed the power wire away from the RCA video cable with no luck. Same thing, almost exactly 15 minutes of driving the backup screen will start popping up and every time I hit the brakes it also comes up, something must be wrong with my trigger wire to the head unit

are you sure you tapped the back up light, and not the brake light?

Pretty sure, two wires going to the reverse bulb, used a test light to check which one is hot when put in reverse, believe it was white/green stripe. Any other good place I can tap the trigger wire to the deck into, think that's my major problem

been doing some work troubleshooting, and realized I didn't need a trigger wire all the way back to the tail light for the deck, didn't seem to work anyways. The pac interface has a green wire that is flagged reverse output, and to connect this to the purple/white wire on the back of the unit. Discovered something very odd, wired the camera to a 12v acc lead, so i can view the cam all the time, then hooked this green lead to the back of the ken wood. Weird, cause every other gear other than reverse the cam screen pops up. If I put the truck in reverse the normal radio screen is on, if i shift to park or neutral the backup cam instantly pops up, so something is definitely backwards. Checked the voltage of this green wire, sure enough it is reading 12v in every gear but reverse. Probably just gonna leave the wire disconnected and say hell with it, can't seem to get the right setup to kick in at reverse. Can view the cam at anytime while driving now, just have to hold the funcion button for a second to access the camera, tired of messing with it with no luck lol
