So, my truck is about to go in for its first service 12,000KMs, and I am going to have to ask them to take a look at the front end. Something feels loose. Whenever I am on bumpy roads etc, I can feel this, what I can only describe as, something loose in the front etc.

Not a vibration, but through the pedals, and the wheel, it actually feels like something in the suspension is loose.

Anyone else notice or have this?

Cheers
John

Sounds like what I was dealing with until recently. Have your body mounts checked for slipping. Make sure the front two at the radiator core support are also torqued to spec.

Body Mounts? Can you expand a little please?

I will be under the truck today for some lighting work, and will take a look.

You're not getting a clunk when you go over bumps are you? I had the clunk problem for months and thought it was the suspension popping while going over bumps, turning into the driveway, etc. Turns out it was the hood making all that noise. I adjusted the hood bumpers out some and replaced the teflon tape where they contact under the hood and it solved my problem.

No. No clunk.

If I go over a bumpy road, it feels rattly and I can feel it under my feet.

I will take the dealer for a drive so he can feel it too. It does not feel good that’s for sure.

So I have an update. Dealer says it's a known issue, but he thought they had fixed it in the 2018 trucks. He says it's play in the steering box/gears. The solution from RAM apparently is to pack it full of grease.

They have my truck now and are looking at that, so I will keep you posted.

Hmm I wonder if this is what I am getting since day 1 that I owned the truck. Do you feel the rattling in the steering wheel? It mostly happens to me at low speeds and on a choppy road, but it feels like there is a rattling in the steering column and sometimes you can actually hear it knocking. I don't think its something actually in the suspension (struts/mounts). If I remember right, I can feel it in the floor too. I think I once thought it may have been the pedals moving around but it still did it when I put pressure against them. I have 46,000 miles on the truck now and living where I do now, the roads aren't as bad as by my parents house, so I have kind of forgot about it.

YES YES YES! Exactly the same. Really noticeable at slow speeds. Much more than at high speeds.

Interesting, let me know how you make out. I have a lifetime warranty on the truck so the next time I bring it in, I will let them look at it.

Sounds like the dealer at least isn't saying working as designed. I get a bit of rattle on bad roads in the steering column, but I think its normal for washboard, but no knock. Wonder if the column is shaking on the rough roads and its hitting somewhere because of a lack of clearance. My first instinct when I read the post title was time to break up with her.

The other thing is the Foot Brake mechanism. That drives me nuts, and there appears no way to stop it rattling!!

So an update...

The truck has been back to the dealer 3 times for a week at a time, and still not fixed.

They apparently have no ideas what it is or how to fix it. They know it’s there, they can feel it when we drive it.

So it has to go back yet again, and probably for a a couple of weeks next time.

Very very very annoying when this is my work truck.

Check the caliper bracket bolts. There has been a couple reports of the caliper bracket bolts actually being slightly long/stretched,and still leaving a tiny bit of clearance for the bracket to move around and rattle, might not be your issue, but if everything else has been checked and looks tight, they might be worth looking at.

Yeah thanks. I reckon it's in the steering. I have felt some play in it, but the dealer says it's normal.
