So, I bought a 1995 RAM 2500. There is a spare tire, but there is no jack or rod for lowering the spare. I'm trying to rig something up without buying the right gear. Where you put the rod into the lowering mechanism, above the back bumper, it's a hexagonal entry, and then it looks like it becomes round about two inches in. On the stock rod that lowers the spare, is the end hexagonal and does it turn just that outer part, or does it have nothing to do with the hexagonal entry tube and reach more deeply into the tube? My other truck has the curved/flat end that reaches far into the truck, like, near where the spare is - and it engages there. I need an explanation of how this works, please. Thanks.

My 2014 came with no kit or jack. I had to order the rod kit from a dealership because I needed to be able to drive places immediately, and won't without being able to fix a flat. In your place I would go to a junk yard and see what tools they have for your vehicle. Now I actually have a full sized spare I carry in the bed so I don't have to fool with the under mounted one. Did this on my last truck as well. If you care to do the same you may come out cheaper, and it sure is easier!
