So this weekend I put in the JBL Power Series P963 all the way around and at the moment not too satisfied with them. Custom built spacers for the front and all. There is not an amp hooked up to them, just running them off Head-unit and don't really think they can handle what they say! Head-unit is a Pioneer AVH-4600BT any thoughts would an amp help with cleaner frequencies not sure any thoughts fellas.

well if you had the base audio, the radio probably wanted 4 ohm load. Looks like you may need to add an amp.

shows has 50x4, but does book say 50x4 (rated) at 2 ohm or 4 ohm?

I still suspect you'll want a small amp to get what your looking for.

Your referring to the head unit I am guessing and all I think is the rms out of that may be 22w x4 probably at 4 ohms what your saying. Do you think 60w x4 at 2 ohms would make a big difference? **** I'm afraid they will blow lmao

Shouldn't, they have them rated way higher than that :)
Them rating the radio to do 22 watts, is suspect. I never really pay too much attention to manufactures rated radio power. Bet if you added a decent 4 channel amp you'd be more pleased.

The head unit probably only pushes 22w and the speakers are rated 110w rms but I am guessing they might not be getting a clean source of power probably due to the radio, I will look around on Craigslist here and see if I can't find a cheapy

aftermarket radios are way overrated people think they are getting a 50x4 radio yeah its only like 8-12watts. radios will NEVER see max power.

first off you put in speakers that i classify as "factory replacements" what are you expecting?
did you listen to them before you purchased? if so same head unit? with no amp?

a ot of times when you go into a store they are played off of an amp.

Exactly, sound boards are amped quite well...kinda deceiving to most customers assuming they will be that loud.

Your calling them factory replacement speaker I would have to disagree with you with that I just think I need to add the amp these are a huge upgrade from factory from materials used to the magnets.

If you can afford it, amp the speakers...they will sound better.
Don't worry too much about blowing the speakers....your head unit power will blow your speakers much faster than an amp will....remember, watts do not blow speakers, distortion does...and your head unit is prob putting out more distortion than watts at this point, which is prob why you're skepticle about adding an amp ...

Thanks sounds good to me and makes sense their rated 110 rms under powering them at 75 sound good?

You could make your ears bleed with a true 75w rms. The jbls will do fine on that power just make sure your gains are set correctly.

no offense to you or what you bought but being in the business a speaker that costs less than about 100 per pair (these you can get all day for 160 for 2 online) is usually considered a factory replacement. yes they are made of a better quality, but they are also on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

what kind of sound are you expecting? what most people done realize is a factory radio is designed to play best with factory speakers (cross over points, wattage). when you change out one of these factors it has a big effect. this is why aftermarket companies came out with all the processors and dsp units so people can get better adjustments.
