Hey all,

my steering on my 2015 1500 was stiff and very much unsafe. Dodge dealer told me over 2000.00 for a new rack, and apparently my truck did not qualify for the recall out here in Newmarket, Ontario

my buddy who is a mechanic for Mercedes Benz told me to spray penetrating oil liberally on the u-joint for the steering arm (right beside the left exhaust bank). Roll the steering quite a bit to allow the oil to penetrate......

FIXED!

steering is totally fine and back to normal.......hope this helps a few of us out there!

I had the same issue, drove to dealer, turned off truck. As soon as tech turned on the steering was fine. The code was non specific, so they put on lift and couldn't find anything. Been fine since.

You need to replace that ujoint. It will seize up again at the worst time.

Gonna bump this up to see if there's any "new" info on the steering shaft u joint. Mine is starting to get tight every once in a while. Is any other replacements options on the market? I found a Borgeson online that claims to fit but the photo looks totally different than the stock one. So all I've found so far would be a stock Mopar one or a Dorman. But if the stock one is a failure point I'd rather get one that either won't fail or has a grease fitting on it to lubricate it.

I ended up replacing the steering U-Joint....It was like $80.00 from Mopar and extremely easy to replace.....When removed, it was clearly obvious that it was seized up pretty bad....
