Been looking at buying a used truck for what seems like forever. I have finally settled on a 2014 or newer 1500 with 60k miles or less. I would really prefer a Laramie but at least a Big Horn.

My main question is what should I realistically be expecting to pay for a Laramie? I would like to pay somewhere around 25,000-28,000.

What does everyone think about this? Is this unrealistic? I have seen trucks posted at 27k,28k but not sure if they are too good to be true. Also if they're listed for that much, how much can I get that price down?

Thanks

Dont get hung up on the Laramie unless you have to have keyless entry and push button start. Many Bighorn/SLTs here with all the options added. You can add the heated/cooled seats, fancy dash, big 8.4 screen, and so on. Ram made it easy as you can add almost every option to these trucks. There is a vendor M2 mods that make harnesses for specific add ons. If I had to do it all over again I would still get the Bighorn and build it up just like I have.

Also you are in Florida, what parts?

Good point. I have also had leather seats in every car ive owned and that would be another thing I would have to add to the big horn. I'm in Jacksonville

The seats are too easy to install. Try to find a Bighorn with the Uconnect and Luxury pacakges, unless you find an amazing deal on a Laramie thats not a canadian import. Im in Tampa or Id help you if you ever go that route. Lots of family up in that area. Keystone Heights, Starke Park, and some family of Blanding blvd/parking lot

Have you checked carmax ?
I just got mine from there after searching dealers for over two months.
They had two trucks that matched what I wanted, and were 3-4 thousand less than anything on a dealers lot within 100 miles of me.

I am getting an extended mopar warranty, so I was not worried, plus mine still has 2 years of factory.
It only had 7900 miles (2017) and I was leary of the low miles, but so far no problems

So what's for sale in your area?

Have you checked CarMax or KBB.com, AutoTrader.com or other vehicle for sale search sites?

Market prices vary sooo much from area to area that what I can get out here in Orygun for $25K to $28K may or may not be the same as you can get in Florida.

I had a 14 big horn

I traded it in this year for a 17 laramie

The laramie is **** compared to the BH, and I can tell you even though they bumped up the 17 big horn package to include the 8.4 and 7 inch screens which was not standard on the 14s

The laramie package is still worth it for these add ons and make the truck look/feel that much more $quality$ over the big horn.

Rims
Leather
Grill
F/R Led lights
Fender Flares
Heated rear seats
Alpine speakers + sub
Pwr + memory seats
Pwr + memory pedals
Leather dash
Woodtrim
Keyless enter/go
Auto wipers
Auto Highbeam
Heated front seats
Heated Steering wheel

You know what is really dumb, the 17 Big horn comes with led bed lights and remote start, the 17 laramie does not come with those 2 items and are optional add ons.

I traded in my 14 and got 21k, the dealer listed it for 29k and dropped price to 25k and sold it like within a week. 28k +/- laramie should be ballpark, what does kbb say?

Yea I have looked at CarMax extensively and to find everything I want in my area is proving difficult. (Big Horn, 5.7 hemi, Heated wheel/seats, front bucket seats, 8.4 uconnect) Even out of my area it seems that CarMax buys a lot of V6 trucks and then they want 29k for a V8 with 40k miles. It seems high to me and especially with their non negotiable prices

I keep coming back to the Laramie because of all the little things that will make the overall quality of the truck a lot better.

KBB says fair market price from a dealer for a Crew Cab Laramie w/ 5.7 is between 28k-32k. If I can pay a couple grand more and get into a Laramie I think it might be worth it...

Wait until the MY 19 hits the floors, then go and try and wheel and deal the dealers for brand new.

Those used prices are a little unnerving when a few k more nets you 0 miles and full warranty

They are supposed to be enroute this week or next

If you are buying used, keep in mind some of those flood vehicles from Texas are still being sold.

Check out the 18's rather than used, huge discounts because of the 19's hitting the lots.

After owning both Big Horn and Laramie trims I can say that the Laramie feels far superior in interior quality. You also get LED headlamps and tail lamps which give the truck a much more premium look. Interior lighting is also much nicer. Just the difference in the door panels alone between BH and Laramie is night and day. I wouldn’t go the route of buying a lower trim and then trying to piece together “upgrades” as you go. It ends up probably costing you more money than just getting a Laramie in the first place and can easily become a PITA. A lot of times it ends up looking cheap and when you go to resell the truck later people will be like WTF. A dealer would certainly not give you a lot on a trade in. They are looking for OEM condition vehicles. If you want the Laramie, get the Laramie, because if you don’t you’ll be wishing you had one every time you see one.

I'm a new member here but thought I'd chime in. I was also looking at a used Ram (2015+) and found Texas pricing to be in the upper $20k's for one with lower miles. So I ended up finding a new 2018 Ram 1500 Harvest Edition with pretty much every option I wanted that was on sale for $33,900. Leather, 8.4" with NAV, factory spray in bedliner, heated seats/steering, 20" black wheels, 5.7L. I love it! I'll try to post a couple of pics. Of course, first mod was removing the mud flaps.

I was looking at a low mile used truck last fall. The deals I was finding on low mileage used trucks led me to buy a new 2017. I was within a few thousand dollars because of the huge incentives being offered to get the old inventory moved. I never thought I would buy another brand new vehicle, yet I did.

Hard to ignore buying new when used prices are so close. I went for a new 2017 Laramie as well since $15k off won’t happen often - it was too good to pass up.

Sorry to OP and not trying to hijack but same question. I'm on a rock solid budget of 20k total for a used Ram. Found a 2014 1500 SLT Big Horn w/82k miles for 16,600. Seems like a very decent price, and is clean in and out, and CARFAX is clean too. Back up camera, navigation, blah blah.

It is only a 4x2 and has the 3.6L V6 that i like for her gas mileage. Its for pretty, fun, and good vision, not towing anything. Is there anything I should be looking for or to ask?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Check cargurus.com for pricing info. I went with a used sport and it’s pretty much loaded like a Laramie except no memory seats. I bought my 2014 sport in 2016 from a private individual on Craigslist so that’s always an option.

I was doing exactly what you are doing now a few months ago. I’m OCD about research and comparison.

My experience in the WA/OR area was that nearly every low mileage Ram came from Canada. This means no warranty on your power train (confirmed by two dealers). Watch for that if it is an issue for you. Many of them came from areas that used road salt and underbody corrosion has begun.

Also, any time you inspect one of these trucks, raise the passenger side rear seat and look for water on the subwoofer. Stick your hand between the seat back and truck body and feel for moisture. Nearly every truck I looked at had some water leakage back there.

Tracks were all under 30k miles and priced in the $29-$32k range. All but one was Laramie trim. There is a website that lets you see the original window sticker if you enter the VIN-great for verifying equipment.

I felt all the used trucks were overpriced and in the end I found a lonely 2017 in Laramie trim that an Oregon dealer was motivated to sell.

Lastly, Car Gurus can tell you how long a car has been on a dealers lot and it’s price change history. This is a great negotiating tool and I used it to smack down a lying Ford salesman that had one of the used rams I was considering.

My dealer allowed me 33 K trade in on my 2014 Longhorn 4 WD, with all the options. It had just under 30 K miles, and had been garaged the three years I owned it. I watched their ads to see what they had it priced at, and they were asking 39 K for it, which seemed odd to me since new 2017 trucks of the same style were being blown out for around 43 K. Not sure how much they sold it for, but it was gone after seeing only one ad for it...I do miss the amenities on the Longhorn not found on the Laramie...
