A few weeks ago, I bought a 2017 Ram 1500 crew cab, 6.4 bed (27K). I’m looking into upgrades such as a 4”or 5” running boards, headache rack and a spray-in bed liner. One of the sites I found and like is www.RealTruck.com. Also, there is a LINE-X location near me but I’m considering spraying the bed myself. A quality job is all in the prep work. I painted my 67 GTO, so I think I can spray in a bed liner. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Welcome to RamForum. If you are comfortable with doing the prep and spray in liner, or prep and roll in a liner, I say go for it.

There are a lot of threads in the Exterior section of the forum which talk about running boards, step bars, etc... that should give you some input on a lot of different makers and styles to consider.

Do you feel you need a headache rack for cab protection? If not, why add the extra weight? Maybe there are some other functional mods that you could do, such as a cold air intake, exhaust and a programmer with custom tunes.

Good luck with the mods.

Thanks Mike, I’ll check out the exterior section.

Regarding the headache rack; at times, I’ll want to fly the American flag in the back of my truck (maybe I’m a little redneck, but enormously patriotic). I’ve been trying to design something from wood to support the flag pole so that I don’t have to drill any holes in the bed (thin steel). When I saw the “Headache Rack”, I figured I can use this, perhaps weld additional steel to support the flag pole. I don’t think this thing can weigh that much.
