For those of us with no front parking sensors, nor the 13+ uConnect that can accept inputs from additional cameras (pretty sure the 09-12s can't), in place of an expensive Alpine iLX-F309 HALO9 plus all the accessories and install cost, I was thinking that a Garmin DriveSmart 65 GPS + BC 40 wireless camera (or cameras) might be an interesting option. Says rated IP7.

Also solves the issue with older trucks that don't have built in navigation, and don't always feel like pulling out their smartphone to stick on the dash or have a small screen phone.

Otherwise, I was considering this popular but so-so reviewed Costco unit called the Type S. But then you have another screen that isn't doing crap most of the time taking up space.

Thoughts?

That doesn't help with parking though, does it? My issue is I have a backup camera and sensors, but nothing on the front, and the hood is quite huge.

So I can back up into things nice and close, but up front I really have no clue unless its a solid wall.

no you would need a camera in the rear tailgate mount or third brake light and now they have one for the front also but takes a bit of wiring and I think the front camera system you have to jailbreak the 8.4 radio so this would work. Looked on you tube and their are some good information on these camera systems good luck

The lockpick enables you to have multiple cameras on the factory radio

Thanks for that! If the price were lower, I would jump on that, but spending $300 on a 10 year old infotainment system to unlock front camera feature is a little rich for my blood, and would still have to route a camera to the front. Thanks again though.

Gotta have the 8.4 radio correct???

Actually, no, this is for the mygig radio, 2009 - 2012 on the 1500's. The newer Ram'a need the Lockpick Air,slightly more expensive, (of course).

Agreed, it is a little pricey just to add a camera. It does also give you video in motion, but who really watches a movie while driving, and if I guess correctly, you don't have nav, so inputting destinations while moving is a moot point.
