Surging and stalling.

Hey guys, I’ve got an 04 2500 5.9 Cummins. It’s totally stick for the most part. I’ve had no issues until suddenly yesterday the truck lost power, rpm’s would surge and kept stalling. I limped it home but it would only run at idle. As soon as I accelerated at all it would surge, chug and then stall but would start fine right after. I have no codes coming up. I pulled the FCA and cleaned it and just in case I ordered one. I’m seeing this is a common problem. When I start it now it’s a little more intermittent but defiantly still there. When it surges I can see a little black and white smoke at the exhaust. It’s never burnt black or white in the past. Any suggestions??
