Was rushing to get someplace this weekend and got into a slight accident...my fault. Was at a known choke point in So Cal where a busy road merges and two freeways intersect. I was merging on and looking in my rearview mirror, looked back and saw the right side merging traffic stopped. Panic braking and screeching tires and a loud "thud". Cussing up a storm, I slowly merged over to the shoulder to await my victim.....and waited. Got out and did a walk around. Only thing I saw was a slight dent in my front right chrome bumper with a swipe of white paint. barely noticeable. After waiting some more, I got back in and went about my way. realized later that the loud "thud" was my load slamming forward in the bed. I got off easy this time, but it just reminded me that driving defensively is key. Be patient, and don't be the idiot that everyone shakes their head at.

I'm a teleworker so I rarely deal with traffic any more.

Had to tonight, though. OMG the crazies are everywhere. I almost got sandwiched between two vehicles - and I've had my truck only 4 days!

I had to do some breathing exercises after to calm down and not be part of the craziness.

Glad all is well.
Had a similar thing happen to me. Forgot the spare was in the bed and stop quickly when someone pull in front of me. I thought I had been rear-ended. Looked in the mirror and no one was there. Glad it was the spare.

Glad your ok. As your know, it's only gonna get worse out here this weekend prior to Thanksgiving with folks thinking about everything but driving.
Ain't that the troof !!! Gotta love SoCal freeways out there lol ..

But I take it easy when I am driving the truck .... especially with the family onboard ... don't get me wrong if I am on the 215 or 15 out here in the Riverside Temecula area, I will careen down the highway lol !!!

But yes, we have to understand and keep in the back of our heads that regardless of what good brake system we might have, will only have a split second most times to make a decision ....

So many times, it's not the vehicle in front of you, it's the one in the lane 2 over that shoots sides ways over to/from the fast lane. I don't care how efficient your Prius or Tesla is.... they are not crash tested to being run over by a tall truck, let alone a semi. :driver:

LOL

Escondido Calif. is on Interstate 15 & crosses both over & under California Route 78
That interchange was not very well thought out

I have walked every yard of that interchange & every On & Off Ramp within miles of there.
In fact i have walked every State Highway in San Diego County & a lot of Imperial County

I worked for Caltrans for 33 years, doing road repair

Try dodging all those vehicles when you are working on the road

That's where it happened. Merging on to the 15 North from Valley Blvd in the early afternoon when the 78 exit is getting backed-up LOL

That is where the 2 lanes going off to East & West 78 & Center City begin on North 15
You would have to cut across those 2 lanes & at least a 3rd lane, because people wait until the last possible second to enter those 2 lanes & some dare devils even try to stay in the 4th lane from the right shoulder & they try to cut everyone off.

I even worked on Center City Parkway, when it was part of Interstate 15
That was before they built the Freeway up through there
That was around 1976, damn i'm getting old :)

You get that rights Seems like driving after covid lay-off turned into a free for all. Not just Ca, I drive a semi , 48 states. Bad everywhere. I swear my truck has a big sign in front that says "Pull out in front of me!" Not good when I weigh 80000 lbs.

A rubber bedmat protects the tissue paper metal we have and can slow down the load shifting.

If you start thinking about your brakes or tires as you're driving along...you're going too fast! DAMHIK.

Well...another stupid incident that could have been much worse.... I was up in Julian this past weekend trying to find parking. Pulled up the street and off the shoulder as best I could. My son opened the door as I was shutting down and the car rolled back a bit catching the right rear door edge against a tree. Started back up and rolled forward to free it up.. luckily no damage. Today's lesson.... although you "feel fine", two beers can affect your good judgement

Ever watch those car crash YouTube videos and say "oooh, your going to fast" or "you're following too close", or "You're just an idiot"? ;)
