White smoke can be unburned fuel or coolant. If you're confident you got good head seal and intake manifold seal, then timing is way off.
I may have been a bit paranoid on the smoke. I think it was either burning off everything I worked on, OR something to do with the tune. I decided to actually put the NON-MDS tune on before cranking it again, and no more smoke.

I am not confident about anything on this project, really. lol

Quick update: I actually loaded the Non-MDS tune this time, and fired back up. No smoke. But, its still shaking.....mysteriously feels like the exact same shake it started doing before pulling the engine apart, when i was getting a Cyl 2 misfire. I would let off the gas from a stop it would jerk uncontrollably until i gassed it, yea its doing that still. I drove it around for about 2 miles or so, around the neighborhood.

BUT....im getting:

Ignition Coil H Sec Cir P2323
Cylinder 8 Misfire P0308
Multiple Cylinder Misfire P0300

Is that totally indicative of the timing being off? Kinda seems that way from what I've found on this forum. But oddly it is now performing exactly as it was, before I tore the thing apart lol

THE TICK IS GONE THOUGH!!! so that's a win
Hey glad the tick is gone! The white smoke was most likely coolant in the cylinders especially if you forgot to wipe them out? Glad it cleared up though since that would definitely be a head gasket issue.

Did you double check all your coil packs are plugged in specifically number 8? Spark plugs are in? The shaking sounds like what your scanner is confirming your down a cylinder or misfiring. These motors are interference motors if you screwed up the timing you would most likely already have tuliped a valve.

If all that checks move the number 8 coil pack to cylinder 2 and see if the problem presents itself on cylinder 2 if so new coil pack.

Hope it’s an easy fix!

Yup….im the idiot.

I went to the auto store to buy 2 $4 spark plugs to put my mind at ease about cyl 8, DEFINITELY not being a bad spark plugs. Went to install them….and whoever did this cam swap on my truck forgot to PLUG THE COIL PACK IN ON CYLINDER 8….lol

So, you are correct! The truck drives like a dream and sounds great! Gonna do an oil change in a few miles with the good stuff that You, Burla, Wildone have all been harping on.

Thank you for your help, and willingness to type out answers answer for me!

Thank you to everyone who helped here! Your patience and kindness is much appreciated from someone who knew nothing about this stuff. You truly saved me a lot of money in mechanics bills, and saved my ass quite a bit.

I’m sure I’m not completely out of the woods yet….ill have to give it a few hundred miles to see how everything holds up, but for now I’m drinking a beer to you guys!

That's good to hear. Now go drive it and make sure it don't suddenly start running hot like everyone else lately.

Forgetting an electrical connector is almost always better than screwing up the timing!

I just did this job and had to drop the pan to replace the oil pump. It wasn't that hard, just another step.
Did you drop the pan on a 4x4? I read on another forum that for the 4x4 you need to remove other parts before dropping the oil pan.
