taking to dealership service??

i am needing to get my truck in for oil change, service, and to check an exhaust noise. I would rather take it to the dealership. i have read before that if you have a tuner install, then the dealership can mess things up, and cause the tuner not to work anymore. I have the superchips flashpaq 3865 and tuned to performance 93. i have also heard that you can just reset the truck to stock. I really don't want the thing to crap out and have to go through everything with superchips to reset it. any advice? should I just take it to another shop, or is it okay to take it to dealership? thanks for any info.

If it were me..... I would remove the tuner before I took it in for service. They really have no reason to check the ecu on an oil change but, if they do and find you are running a tuner they will make a note of it. Down the road they will use that against you for any engine work you might need done under warranty.

I would certainly remove the tune and return to stock before taking it in anywhere, but especially a dealership. If they flash the computer, you'll be stuck with a Superchips 3865 paperweight until you pay Superchips ~$100 to unlock the tuner.

It's always recommended you tune back to stock for service. If the dealer has to upgrade the ECU, you can retune again and the programmer will save those new changes to your saved stock file.

Just a note: If the dealer were to flash over the SC tune, Superchips would unlock the tuner for free with a copy of the service invoice noting the flash.

Stealership service is a PITA. Tried to book an oil change for Saturday using their website on Monday. Got a reply they'd be right back to me. On Wednesday afternoon, had heard nothing, so sent a nasty gram to the service manager. He got back to me and made the appt for Saturday. What was so hard about that? Used Friday night key drop. Wrote oil change and tire rotate (8K mile service) and referenced the prepaid maintenance contract on envelope. Saturday afternoon ~ 1:30 they call to say all done. I get down there in traffic about 3:00. No tire rotation. Had to wait 1/2 hour for the rotation. Get home only to find the tech left two greasy paw prints on my hood when he buttoned it up.

Now I'm thinking the pre-paid maintenace was a huge mistake, but it pays for plug changes and everything for 5 years. This stealership backs the drive train for as long as I own it beyond warranty if I get dealership maintenance though--sales expereince was great--service department sucks. Time to try the other local stealership for service. Only good thing is no out of pocket for the LOF and rotate.

Now you know why they sell you that service agreement... To keep people coming back. God knows with service like that, I wouldn't go there.

Heck, unless it's something that needs special tools, I do it myself. Screw them.

Wife insisted on the service contract: one of those just go with it I'm getting the truck I want moments....

Usually they send an after action questinaire following service--I'm drafting the scathing reply in my mind even as I type this.

Mine is drive up without any appt and get it done in express lane, never has taken me more than 40 minutes form in to out...and that was the service i get with my free oil changes they gave me when I purchased truck.

definitely flash it back to stock but I see no need to pull your cai out that shouldn't raise any eyebrows

well it surely may not be all here, but the one I go to is like a 30 minute drive, the local one is 5 minutes, but stuck with the guys that sold me on it, have had great service from them.

I have only been to the dealer once so far but had a great experience. Integrated brake control install and first service. Super nice, super quick, and it was done to my satisfaction. (I'm very picky BTW)

I'm planning on getting the VR, 85mm TB and the catch can. The only mod I have done yet is the magnaflow 18" muffler. Would any of these mods effect my warranty?

It occured to me my mistake may be Saturday service, but I can't get to the dealer where I bought the truck and still get to work on time during the week. Given the unsat weekend experience I'm going to try the guys 5 miles form my home who have a shuttle to the train station. I was unimpressed with their sales staff, but they serviced my Durango in the past with no problems.
