Hey yall. Had a really heavy rain here the other day, and the next day when I got in my 2008 1500 QC, it smelled like something died inside.

I washed the sears and floor mats with an upholstery cleaner which helped until the next day.

There was no visible wetness anywhere in the truck after the rain. Thoughts?

I don't see any dead animals anywhere inside or out lol...

Help!!!

Dead varmint in engine bay, or on top of tranny? Mice, rats, even cats known to crawl up into nice, warm spaces. Heck my son even found a dehydrated mouse carcass in his brake rotor vents!

I'll double check but I didn't see any dead critters at first look.

probably 3rd brake light leaking water and went funky (it happens)

or something died.

My vote is also third brake light. Stick your hand way back under the rear seat and see if its damp. If so you can get a peel and stick rubber gasket from home depot or any auto parts store. I would also put one of those moisture remover things for boats in the cab to get rid of smell.

That was my first guess. Felt back there quick and didn't feel anything, but I'll check again. I'd imagine it'll be almost dry by now back there so I might need to wait for another rain lol

Thanks for the inputs!

Dollar Tree sells dehumidifiers for a buck. I put one in my truck because the windows were always wet after sitting out in the cold and rain for a few days. Cleared everything up including lingering odors. Might be worth checking out.

Where do you notice it most? Does it change with AC, recirc, or other climate settings? Any water sloshing noises?

Leaves or other debris in the cowl.
Damp cabin air filter.
AC drain blocked.
Door drain blocked.
Sun roof drain blocked.
Bad cab vent (behind seat).
Roof leak (3rd brake light, clearance lights, weld failure).

You don't have a picture of these dollar tree dehumidifiers, do you?
Check out Turkeybird's post-he included a link. Of course the guy in the video is showing a totally used one haha. They work, trust me. I put them where ever I don't want damp IE; gun safe, etc.
