Well I sold the Ram to Vroom last week and took the equity and paid cash for an old GMC Sierra. Sort of a more modern day project vehicle that I can tinker with but with some conveniences and dependable enough to get me where I need to go.

Vroom offered me $46K for it against $37K owed so I said the hell with it. It was a nice truck but I was not attached to it yet like I was my previous 4th GEN so it was pretty easy to let it go.

I will continue to be member here because I still enjoy the forum especially the “Synthetic Oil” thread.

Heres a pic of the “new” truck.

Slight step down there, but then, it is all always a "personal" choice. I will stay all the remarks and say glad U R staying.

Guess I am fortunate, MY RAM is paid for.

Hey tidefan1967, I've appreciated your positivity on my post. Do wish you had gotten another 4th gen instead! Lol

Its a 2007 Classic with the 4.8 V8 so pretty weak next to the Hemi but it runs well and has no valvetrain noise despite having 200K on it. It’s ripe for a cammed 6.0 at some point!

the reason I went with an old GM truck was that I have plenty of experience with them and the 99-06 models were some of the most dependable trucks ever made. Hell my old 2001 Silverado is still going strong at 250K on the original engine and transmission and neither have ever had anything but regular maintenance done to them.

Good truck. My 02 4.8 work truck runs like a top. Plenty of power and can tow a ton in the bed. My work truck has 336k on the original motor. 160k on the transmission. It leaks nothing. The a/c just started to cut on and off when its hot. I think its the pressure cycling switch. It will serve you well. Mobil 1 synthetic is all its ever had.

I had just bought some of that new Valvoline Extended Protection 5W30 we were talking about in the Synthetic oil thread for the Ram not that long ago and put that in it along with a Wix Platinum filter that was also slated for the Ram. Lucky for me that the Hemi and GMs LS engines use the same oil filter since I have quite a large stockpile of them.

Thats interesting to know. I know the 1st and 2nd gen Vipers shared a lot of GM parts. My buddy has one and he was telling me about that.

Those 4.8's are a bit week but will run a looooong time. A 6.0 would be a great option, poor on mpg but good tq! I had an 06 GMC 1500HD with the 6.0 LQ4 and 4l80e trans with lots of mods. I loved that truck, still miss it some times. 99-06 was a great era for GM trucks. They were solid vehicles and all the engines they offered were reliable. These newer ones have all sorts of issues with their AFM.

What an.........interesting decision. I got so pi$$ed @ GM I never went back after 2012. My 5.3L was one of the AFM oil-burners.
