And so it begins. The first (unverified) commentary from a guy who claims to be a dealer mechanic, replacing 11 hurricane engines so far. All bearing failures.

Some quotes to save you the effort of clicking:
If you're changing the oil yourself you better save the receipt for the oil and filter your going to need it to prove you changed it when it fails. I have replaced 9 of those engines so far and I'm waiting for 2 more to come in they are on restriction.

All fairly low miles and all had bearing failure except one it was overheated none were locked up mostly engine noise and oil pressure fault codes.

Have these failures been the SO, the HO, or a mixture of both?

The reddit thread just said "hurricane", so not sure.

Sky (guy with a YT channel who is a FCA mechanic) said a few years ago that he went to a course of some sort to get familiar with the hurricane, and the HO was significantly beefier than the SO. They share displacement and name but a lot of different parts. Who knows

Oof. I don't know nothing about nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised.

New Chargers aren't having the problem... likely because they are getting deadlined by electrical issues before getting any miles on them...

Charger is also about a year behind Ram in terms of production so maybe next New Year's Eve Eve we'll be shaking our heads at the charger?

^^^^ YEA NOPE Il keep my 5.7 hemi LOL wow this looks as bad to work on as nissans failure of a vc turbo engine in the new rogues. I still have nightmares of working on them ahaha you basically have to remove the car to do anything . This is a industry wide issue tho all brands all new cars just SUCK! I never thought things could get this bad to be honest.

Not saying this is fake news, BUT...I'm in a lot of the Hurricane FB groups, and don't think I've seen even ONE engine failure. Folks in those groups like to ***** about every single little thing too.

I'm already seeing complaints of failures on the new six pack as well as the EV, but not motors. Mostly electrical and software related stuff. One guy was complaining he'd had his car 5 days and it already wouldn't shift into reverse, took repeated tries to shift into first, and then "service transmission" came up on his display. He's not alone. It's probably not a mechanical failure, but I haven't seen the resolution for any of them yet.

We shall see !!! Had a lot of inline engine around and even the monster slant 6 when I was a lot younger, not remember many oiling failures on them, just PPL not changing the oil. My thoughts would be if this is TRUE a parts issue than inline 6 issue, but what do I know, I's just a turkey..

You don't have to limit your search to 2019's. In fact I'd personally avoid 2019's because they had the highest number of recalls (first model year of a redesign). You could choose the Hemi with or without etorque through the end of the 2022 model year. If I was in the market for a used Ram 1500 I'd look for 2020 or 2021 models. Uconnect5 was introduced for the 2022 model year, and there were teething problems with those as well.

Thanks for the info! I thought it was just 2019's for no etorque I do know that year had alot of issues but thats the point. I am a full time mechanic I get my trucks cheaper this way ahaha Its how i upgrade on the cheap. My last 3 trucks where from people waaay better off then me that just buy new trucks anytime there is a Issue :laughing1:

Waaaaaaaaaaaay too much software. U.S. Navy cancelled an ENTIRE ship building class due to too much software. It took 'em 3 years just to get the 1st Admiral Zumwalt Destroyer abomination functional. They built 3 ships and cancelled the entire program. A friend worked on the gun mount for it - I bailed out and went to Onan / Cummins.
