How is the ride unloaded compared to normal ride? Looking to add firestone or airlift 5000 bags.

I had the airlift bags on my 2012 1500 and they do make the rear a little stiffer, however, it is still a pretty good ride. I upgraded to a 2500 last fall and have a them for sale on eBay now if interested. They are 2 years old

I think if you get the set without the bump stops its not as rough unloaded

I have the Timber Grove ASAMs. Run them at the recommended 7psi while unloaded and there's no difference from normal ride that I can tell.

Was running airlift 1000's, at 5psi the rear is stiffer if you are sensitive to the feel of the truck.

It not harsh, its just less floaty, and you feel bumps a bit more.

Its still a smooth 1500 ride, probably can't tell a difference on a smooth road.

I installed the TimberGrove air bags and not sure how much air is in them. All my pressure gauges read 20 psi at the lowest. Guesstimating I have about 5-7 psi. On smooth to moderately smooth roads the ride is better. The bags do not like large discrepancies in the road surface such as speed bumps. I'm running Bilstein shocks and I used to be able to navigate the speed bumps with no problem. Just kinda floated over them. Now the rear slams with anything over 5 mph. Haven't had the opportunity to tow with them yet. That'll come next month.

you don't need to run the 5 psi. the reason is that the bump stops usually get removed when you install the air bags. I've ran mine with zero in them and had no issues. There's no difference in ride quality.

Noticing a few PSI in airbags is like the princess and the pea thing noticing a pea under 12 mattresses.

I have the 1000# Airlifts in my 1500 and had the 5000# Firestones in my 2500. With the minimum 5# in them I felt no difference at all compared to not having them.

As mentioned previously, minimum is 5 psi (if you have a compressor kit onboard anyway) and it rides like factory. Most of the time I prefer to be around 8-10.

It is definitely weird though when you air up to 30-35. You feel as if the back has risen up so far that you're staring at the ground. In reality, it's not that significant, but when you're used to the feel, it definitely changes it.

I have the Airlift 1000 HD kit with no compressor. It works great.
The T splice is pretty cheap though so I ordered a metal one. The installation goes a lot smoother if you have 4 large zap straps as well. I mounted the valve between my tail gait and rear bumper, there’s some holes there already that I used. I leave it at about 8 psi with no significant change in handling.
