Old junk 5 speed?

Check out what Matt did with his old junk 5 speed.

The 8s were out for quite a while until someone finally beat him by .01 of a second.

4000 feet, and 3.55s are hurting him badly. Get 4.10s headers, CAI, tune, the basics in other words. Get down to 400 feet, and try again.

I am not manually shifting. Should I be? Should it be in 6 or auto if not?

What is the proper way to launch? I always thought you stomped the brake, revved up with full gas pedal, then released the gas?

6 speed tranny.

Wonder if the head swap could have caused an issue?

Its a hemi lol

Tire pressure good, not sure how to tell if k&n cai filter needs washed. I will check the plugs and throttle body.

The shop had to swap a head because of a broken bolt, so surely they would have noticed something dirty in the throttle body.

Tires are properly aired.

Maybe or maybe not---never hurts to check for yourself---

$400-$500 to change fluid in the 8 tranny, if you do it yourself.

Damn, that's a great transmission.

Your app would be completely off. There’s almost no way even a stock truck would run a 18 second quarter mile. Even my close to stock 03 quad cab and a 96 degree day ran a 16 second 1/4 and that was pretty bad. If you want to wonder why you have a bad time, get a real verified time at a track first. You’ll be surprised. And like previously posted, brake torquing a launch has been know to pull timing because of the torque management feature. On the older trucks someone tested it while data logging and I think it was about 2 seconds that it would pull power out of it. And the gears are probably killing you also. Good performance gears for a 6 speed are 4.56

Power braking will get the TM to kick it from what I have been told., best way is to just set the brake enough so it wont move then hammer it.

You would be very surprised how much faster your truck would be with a good set of gears in it.

IMO I would look into tuning before gears. Being a 2012 the pcm isn't locked and can be done with a just a tuner. I have the exact same drive train as you and tuning woke my truck up like you wouldn't believe. And my truck is a Crew Cab...

I just started a 3 year 36k chrysler warranty, so no tuning yet, probably not gears either.

But, there is obviously something causing the issues even with a 3:55 6 speed.

It would be interesting to put that thing on a dyno.

Even with 3.55s, I'd think you ought to do a 0-60 in the high 6s. The R/Ts were running mid 5s, I think. But they had 4.10 rear ends out of the factory.

I'd do gears before a tuner. But I'd do both if at all possible.

Your Race muffler just makes noise. Little or no hp gain.

Thanks. I am considering taking it to a dyno shop and seeing if they can pinpoint anything before I take it to the dealer.

This is a reach, but could it have been tuned by the previous owner and that left it neutered? Like it screwed up the PCM or something. Previous owner debadged it, swapped to black 20s, did the CAI and muffler, installed a remote start and kenwood touchscreen radio, I am assuming he was an "enthusiast" more than a random old guy or teen.

Right now, possible suggestions include:

Change spark plugs
Run a tank of higher octane
Clean throttle body

Anyone else?

And any tips on shifting?

This is possible from other mods, may have tried tuning himself or someone else that did not know what they were doing.
Ran into this on a 2009 that was tuned in 2010 that ran bad.
Greene supplied tune that brought it back to life in 2018.

Guessing there is know way to get in touch with previous owner.

I found a dyno shop a couple of hours away.

First, going to check plugs and throttle body, and waiting to hear from the dealership to hear everything they did or did not do when they received it/before I bought it.
