Thanks to the internet I pulled the passenger side manifold and found a broken stud. I tried to drill it but the drill walked. I stopped before I ruined the head. My question is has anyone used the Lisle drill plate? I replaced the manifold with an after market one from Amazon. When I matched the mounting flanges together, the old one had a 1/4” warp. I get the feeling that this issue is going to recurr, so the drill plate may be a good investment.

Welder method works best on bolts broken flush at the cylinder head.

First, a 5/16 washer is welded to the broken stud, then a hex nut is welded on. The broken bolt can then be unscrewed from the cylinder head.

Belt sand or have the mounting surface of the exhaust manifold machined flat, and you shouldn't have the problem any longer.
