I know it’s been covered, but everyone seems to say the same things. They all want to run Bilsteins or Fox, but I am looking for a more budget friendly route and have a couple questions.

1. Anyone ever run Gabriel shocks on their truck? How did they do?

2. Is there any difference in the shocks for a power wagon vs. the shocks for a leveled 2500?

3. Are there any other brands of shocks you would recommend for a 4wd 2500, and why?

What is your current suspension setup and what are you looking to accomplish? What's your budget?

I went through a bunch of setups on my 2500 before I was happy.

If you are leved with spacers on stock springs, don't overthink it too much and run something the proper extended length. No matter what shock you run it's gonna ride like a freight train. The front is tolerable, but my rear took alot of messing with as that's normally where the ride is the worst. I made a custom pack out of PW springs. If you don't tow, pull the overload out/cut it down and get some shackles.

5100s are fancy looking stock replacements imo. Yea they last and are reliable, but the internals are what makes a shock and they aren't valved any better than stock stuff. They will ride a little better, but not earth shattering. For that money I'd try thuren overland white bodies, at least support a small business and know they are tuned a little better. That's what I would do if you have oem springs.

If you have a decent budget I'd look at thurens other options. There's a reason his name comes up, he's a magician with this ****. But again, working with stock springs you can only optimize so much.

I attached pics of my old Cummins. 3" lift and rode like a 1/2 ton. No matter what, don't sell it, you'll regret every second of it.....ask me how I know

Im leveled, with stock shocks attached to a shock extension bracket. Truck came that way so I left it alone. Mine is a 2015 so I have rear coils. Im pleased with the ride since I figured out how to adjust the tire pressure thresholds to keep the lights off my dash, so all I want to do is replace the factory shock with one that will ride comparable (or a little smoother if reasonable) on the highway, maybe handle a little better, and will still perform a little better off-road and last. Im no hardcore off-roader, but I do bounce across some pretty rough pastures and hit a deer lease road or two.

Was looking at the Gabriels because they’re half the price as other “off-road” branded shocks.

Only reason I'd sway away from them is to get longer shocks to replace those extension bracket. If you're pretty happy with the ride than yea 5100s would be your best bang for the buck. Ride quality is very subjective to each person. You've already done the biggest thing to help on road with the tire psi, shock change is really gonna gain you a marginal difference without a spring swap. Not saying it's not gonna help, but it's not gonna be night and day.

If you can source Gabriel's long enough for the level, try them out. Nothing wrong with a basic shock for basic uses. I had thuren 2.0 resi fox shocks on that Cummins and I never came close to their potential and I ran that truck hard, very hard. Believe me, nice shocks are cool, and very beneficial if your uses need them, but for what you describe, anything in the proper length will be alright. Just be honest with yourself and how you intend to use the truck, that way you don't buy the wrong product and end up wishing you'd upgraded.

I'm running rough country shocks with my level and they feel just like stock. They are pretty cheap too but are Chinese made so I wonder about the durability of them.

I just put Gabriel Max control shocks on my sons Gran Cherokee, they seem like a pretty decent shock and have a lifetime warranty so we will see.
