Installed cam and lifters on 2015 ram 1500 with 5.7 hemi. when I took it apart I brought #1 cyl to tdc put marks on vvt tin and chain and marked the chain and left side guide. Put the chain back on and lined the marks on guide and vvt and tightened the cam bolt. turned the engine over by hand a few times. The marks on the guide line up at tdc. But the marks on the vvt cover and chaine are 2 links off. and I am positive the chain did not move on the cam gear when I let the tensioner go. Can the spring and cover move after turning the engine over. I know I should have marked the sprocket on the cam and not the vvt cover. Any answers?? I don"t really want to remove the oil pan to start from scratch. Any ideas???? Help is needed.

You need a bunch of turns for everything to line back up,i think @Ken226 figured it out to be roughly 79 crank rotations before everything lines back.

Yea, your just fine. The timing sprocket and crank sprocket align every other crank revolution.

The least common multiple of the cam sprocket tooth count, crank sprocket tooth count and number of chain links is such that the chain link marks don't realign frequently.

After you have the heads and rockers installed, before you put in the spark plugs, put a socket on the harmonic balancer nut and turn the engine over by hand a few times. Make sure it turns fully and freely with no binding. It's your last chance insurance policy against a mistake costing you a new valve train.
