Do you know the proper and safe way to change a flat tire? Many don’t, and even if you think you do, a quick review is worthwhile. We invite you to take a few minutes and read the process as we’ve outlined it for your below. In providing instructions for replacing a flat, we are presuming that you are indeed on the road somewhere, and not at home. Of course, doing this in the luxury of your driveway offers many advantages, but you can still make use of the steps as outlined below.
HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE STEP BY STEP
1. Move safely away from danger
2. Put it in P, turn it off, apply the e-brake and turn on the flashers
3. The vehicle needs to be on fairly level pavement
4. Remove the spare and the tire-changing tools
5. Chock with a rock, or anything handy nearby
6. Loosen the lugs before jacking it up
7. Raise the tire only as much as you need to
8. Don't get under the car!
9. Remove the flat, install the spare
10. Snug everything down
11. Lower the jack
12. Perform a final tightening of the lug nuts/bolts
