A stupid ?

Planning on changing my never used 11 y/o Good Year SRA tire this summer only because of age !
I will sand the rim and paint !
I read a few places that the spare has a TPMS that will work after install and driving so will see lol

Planning on a Budget tire as I can not see paying 200$ for the spare but will lol

Tire PSI is 40 PSI' Does it make sense to set the spare at 45/50 psi since in may get checked once a year

What budget tires have you used ?

I went online and found an old rim with a 7 year old sr-a for $50. Took it with me for the Dempster trip last year.

If I’m home and need something for a day or two I’ll just put on one of the studded winters.

Realistically, unless your rock crawling, buy the cheapest tire. It only needs to exist and work.

Yes, the full size spares do come with a TPMS sensor, well most do, anyway.
The TPMS on the spare will not show up anywhere on the EVIC, but will show pressure low and won't tell you it's the spare. Pretty dumb idea.

Ask me how I know this... Just went through it and was stumped till I discovered this "undocumented feature". I changed the spare sensor ( new Autel one) with a programmed new one (Have an Autel MAX TPMS3501 Pro TPMS tool), then did an RF hub reset and all is good now.

There is a setting in AlfaOBD that changes sensors from 4 to 5 sensors or visa versa (with or without the full size spare TPS).

LOL, like all the websites that say to push the reset button, left side of steering column. Yeah, the button that doesn't exist.

So much clarity on the web.
I will have to look to see if that button is not there lol
Yea web info can be hit or miss :O

My Ram came with the Doughnut Spare which I didn't love since I tow a travel trailer in the summer months.

I went to the dealer and picked up a 20" Ram steel wheel about a year after I bought my truck and the cost was not too bad at that time.

No cheap spare tire though I went a little larger when I got rid of the stock tires so I put the same on my spare.

My new Ram 2500 Limited came with 20” tires on the ground….and a “Full Size Spare”…. which when I checked it…. the spare is actually an 18” wheel and tire.

Mine is called a "full-sized temporary spare" for 50 mph maximum, IIRC.
The tread makes the stock 'good for a year' OE tires look good.
I had them install the new tires on the traded Tundra and use my preferred tires on the Ram truck.

My truck came with 20" Al rims, but the spare is a 17" oddball-sized tire.
gen 4, 5-bolt sized.

I am going to drop the spare and wire brush the rim the paint with Rust stop primer/paint then while tire down will spray Fluid Film on the tire winch !

O.K. so I take it that I could replace my doughnut spare with a 20 inch full size spare? I really don't like that punny little thing. Bought new, 20's were in the Lstar pac'g.

I have 5 matching wheels, the best of the tires getting changed is always the new spare.
That is what I do too, except my spare rim is an OEM factory steel one.

If I was the OP, I would just wait till I needed new tires again. In 11 years his current spare has likely never been used.

I bought a used rim from eBay and removed the chrome cover and adhesive foam. I put my best old tire on it when I got new tires. The rim was $50, mounting it was $30.

You have to remove the chrome cover to fit the spare tire clamp through the hole. Kind of a pain to do, but I did it while sipping a couple of beers in the shade.
