I just ordered a set of Rebel aluminum wheels for my SLT Crew. They'll be on next weekend. I'll be mounting LT285/70R17s (probably Cs, the Rebel comes with Es) from Falken Tire. Fit won't be an issue. The nose of the SLT and the Laramie are no lower than my wife's Rebel in Aero mode and the rear end sits higher. Her Rebel rides on E rated Toyos in the same size from the factory.

I've gave up on general and master craft tires, haven't had a set last more then 20k miles. I'm hooked on falken wildpeak at3w great a/t -m/t highly recommend them

I run these on my Jeep, going to mount them on my SLT next weekend unless I can get a better deal on the Falken Rubitrek A/T, a little more of a highway style A/T that the Falken A/TW3.

I dont have any experience with the a/t but the at3w are absolutely amazing for snow and slush I can plow through a foot plus of snow like nothing and I rarely lose traction on the roads and normally some of the roads arent even salted or plowed when I go to work. I had a set on my old truck and absolutely loved them last winter so I got them for my truck now and again no issues. I talked my buddy in 35s for his truck his have almost 50k miles on them and they are well over half tread still and my father in law usually gets m/t for his 6.7 ford for plowing snow in the winter and he also got at3w this year and he loves them. I just think for the money the falken wildpeak at3w is the best all around tire

Lots of great reviews for them. There have been loads of people on this site that really like them. Only possible downside some complain of getting them getting loud a year in or so. Last time I shopped for tires it was Falken's or Yoko's. I'm sure you will be very happy with them. Let us know what you think of them.

285/70/17's are too wide for a stock 7" wheel - they do work nicely on a Rebel wheel though, which is 8" wide.

285 is completely fine on a x7 wheel. I ran 305/70/16 on 16x7. Wore square and well.

12.50 tires have been on x7 wheels since the 80’s.

Okay guys dumb question but im going to ask it anyways. my 17 ram has 265/70r17 and im looking at the general grabber. How do they look? Has anyone put these on or should i go up to the 285s? Looking to keep stock rims. Feel free to post pictures if anyone has that size.

Not a dumb question at all. I'm planning my next tire to be at least an LT 275/70/17. I've also considered an LT 255/80/17 but that's not a very common size. I'm just not a fan of the extra wide that comes with a 285.

When I had 285/70/17's on a 7" wide wheel the handling really suffers - esp. when there is a bump on a bend or hitting the brakes quick and hard with the wheels turned. The rim would move the sidewall in and out of the tire.

Not saying you can't run them, just saying it isn't rec. or good handling on the highway. Just depends on what you want to a degree.

Off road they would probably work well with all of the sidewall movement.

The increased sidewalk of a 285/70/17 over a 265/70/70 and the increased width (10mm to each side) is so minimal, to have felt handling differences, that could have been 100% just the change in tire; carcass, tread pattern, load range, brand, etc etc.

I put oem size and load range duratracs on 2008 ram and it was like driving a boat until they broke in after 1000mi.

Too many variables to think a 1/2 in of rim on each side of the wheel would have changed much, if anything.

Did you order from your dealer or is there another supplier that offers Rebel rims?

The first thing you have to understand is that nearly ALL aluminum "style" wheels, regardless of who makes or sells them are made in China. Now that we're past that, there are several companies that market replica wheels, or "copies" of OEM wheels. I put "copies" in quotes because when it comes to some aluminum wheels they roll off of the same line as the "factory" wheel. Make sense? OE Creations markets the "Replica" Rebel Wheels. JEGS Performance sells them new for $166.00/each. Side by side with a "factory" wheel there are no differences. I bought mine off of Ebay for $166.00/Each, and picked up some spline lug nuts and some TPMS Sensors for next to nothing. I also got a non-factory color combination that I think will really pop on my Bright White Ram SLT Crew, polished lip and accents with anthracite gray inlays. I'll have them mounted Wednesday and get you some pictures.

Load Range E is an LT tire. The LT Es will come with a few more 32nds of tread depth than the P Metric tires in the same size. This is true of all manufacturers. Falken makes the A/TW3 in 285/70R17 in LT E, LT C, and P-Metric. I have the LT E's on my Jeep right now.

General Grabber ATX has been a fantastic winter tire. I'm really happy with it. I ran the X3's this year in Moab. They were ok in Moab. Great in mud, good traction in sand. Good on slick rock.

But I have observed, both the ATX & the X3 seem to like more air pressure for highway than my Toyo MT's did. They get soft and the sidewall will bulge fast. 18psi on the Toyo's was nothing. These tires, that looked scary.

I liked the looks of the Grabber X3 with red letters, but I won't be running them again. I easily blew a sidewall out on the Morrison Jeep trail where I shouldn't have IMO. I know the Toyo's would have been fine because I've run the Toyos in that crap before.

That being said, if you travel a lot on road, and want a quiet tire that handles the rain, snow, sleet, and ice really well, (and is an actual 3 peak rated snow tire) the General ATX is a solid affordable choice.

Two winters, still going strong. I do run winter/summer tires.

But I think I'll be keeping the General ATX's for some time as my road-trip/towing tire.

I just recently drove from Boise to Portland in all kinds of crazy winter weather, and these tires where just fantastic and confidence-inspiring.

They are good enough for dirt roads, but I wouldn't expect great performance in mud or for them to be very sticky on the rocks. They are an AT after all.

If you want an indestructible MT and aren't too concerned about wear and cost, buy a Toyo MT

61823672_875319736193785_1938509054980653056_o.jpg

I've run the sheeee-it out of those. My only complaint about the Toyo MT is that I just didn't get any real longevity out of them.

Right now I'm testing out BFG KM3's but I don't have enough miles or off-road time to give anyone an opinion about them, other than they're nice around town, lolol

I ugh, run a lot of tires. There are Nitto Trail Grapplers, Toyo's, KO2's and Falken's in my garage.

I want the best across the board.

A while back, I ran the Toyo Open Country AT/II's in 35x12.50R17

They're alright. I never really was that impressed with them. I do think the Generals are better overall. As the Generals have better sipping and can accept studs.

I use any discussion about General tires to relay the following anecdote.

I had a blow-out, well within the road-hazzard period. The blowout occurred from the inside out, which tells me it was due to a manufacturing defect. After holding my tire for hostage for 3 months, they begrudgingly offered me $50 against a replacement tire. seriously? no thanks!

:Rock on: Sooner or later, you'll hate General. :Rock on:

I can only hope my dissatisfaction has cost them at least the price of a new set of tires.
Have had extremely good luck with Generals, several ones. Would buy them before most, do like BFG's also, especially Rugged Terrain tread ones. Good luck.
