Okay guys dumb question but im going to ask it anyways. my 17 ram has 265/70r17 and im looking at the general grabber. How do they look? Has anyone put these on or should i go up to the 285s? Looking to keep stock rims. Feel free to post pictures if anyone has that size.

Go to custom offsets website they have pics of everything but a 285/75r17 really fills out the wheel wells

285/70/17's are too wide for a stock 7" wheel - they do work nicely on a Rebel wheel though, which is 8" wide.

I was worried about that. I seen a lot of people post about them but everything i see is the minimum is a 7.5 rim. I am new at this and trying to figure everything out.

It will really affect your handling on bends, either stay with the 265/70 or try to go with a narrower tire if you want tallers - ie a 75 series.

I have the General Grabber HTS 60 in the 275/60/20 sizes on my truck.
I am not sure which Grabber you were looking at.

You can mount 255/80/17 or 34x10.5x17 tops with a 7" wide wheel. Get aftermarket 17x9 wheels for example and now you're looking at 285,295,315,35 or 37, 39, 40 or 42's on demand :), Leave the 20 wheels for the Challengers and the Jeep GC SRT8's..... Lol

I use any discussion about General tires to relay the following anecdote.

I had a blow-out, well within the road-hazzard period. The blowout occurred from the inside out, which tells me it was due to a manufacturing defect. After holding my tire for hostage for 3 months, they begrudgingly offered me $50 against a replacement tire. seriously? no thanks!

:Rock on: Sooner or later, you'll hate General. :Rock on:

I can only hope my dissatisfaction has cost them at least the price of a new set of tires.

Grabber A/T2 are all but gone, been replaced by A/T3 and the A/TX. A/T3 aren't nearly as available as the A/TX. These are all terrain tires, and highly recommend overall. If you are driving mostly highway, the HTS or HTS60 are excellent tires. I have had both, but neither in a LT, only Passenger rated. Better value may may be the Continental Terrain contact HT. I think that's the correct suffix anyway. Both made in the same plant by the same people, and when looking at the specs on tire rack, I was extremely impressed with specs personally. If you only drive on highway, get a highway tire. It will wear longer and probably be a better ride and quieter too. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't know if they've improved, but my old F-150 came with General Grabbers and they wore out REAL fast, just road use. Didn't learn my lesson and got some more, they did the same. Also were horrible in weather. They may have changed formulas and patterns, but that was my experience and it left a bad taste.

I let a tire shop talk me into General Grabbers on an old F150 I had years ago. I didn't like them but maybe they've improved. On my 2015, I put 275r60 Duratracs on at 53k. I'm about to cross 100k and am just below 50% tread. The first week that I had them, and old man pulled up next to my truck at a light. He rolled down his window and said, "Man! That's a truck!" before driving off. I know that I could have bought new rims and got cooler tires, but at $1k for just a tire upgrade I was pretty happy.

General Grabber ATX has been a fantastic winter tire. I'm really happy with it. I ran the X3's this year in Moab. They were ok in Moab. Great in mud, good traction in sand. Good on slick rock.

But I have observed, both the ATX & the X3 seem to like more air pressure for highway than my Toyo MT's did. They get soft and the sidewall will bulge fast. 18psi on the Toyo's was nothing. These tires, that looked scary.

I liked the looks of the Grabber X3 with red letters, but I won't be running them again. I easily blew a sidewall out on the Morrison Jeep trail where I shouldn't have IMO. I know the Toyo's would have been fine because I've run the Toyos in that crap before.

That being said, if you travel a lot on road, and want a quiet tire that handles the rain, snow, sleet, and ice really well, (and is an actual 3 peak rated snow tire) the General ATX is a solid affordable choice.

Two winters, still going strong. I do run winter/summer tires.

But I think I'll be keeping the General ATX's for some time as my road-trip/towing tire.

I just recently drove from Boise to Portland in all kinds of crazy winter weather, and these tires where just fantastic and confidence-inspiring.

They are good enough for dirt roads, but I wouldn't expect great performance in mud or for them to be very sticky on the rocks. They are an AT after all.

If you want an indestructible MT and aren't too concerned about wear and cost, buy a Toyo MT

I've run the sheeee-it out of those. My only complaint about the Toyo MT is that I just didn't get any real longevity out of them.

Right now I'm testing out BFG KM3's but I don't have enough miles or off-road time to give anyone an opinion about them, other than they're nice around town, lolol

I ugh, run a lot of tires. There are Nitto Trail Grapplers, Toyo's, KO2's and Falken's in my garage.

I want the best across the board.

A while back, I ran the Toyo Open Country AT/II's in 35x12.50R17

They're alright. I never really was that impressed with them. I do think the Generals are better overall. As the Generals have better sipping and can accept studs.

Gen 3 1500's were often equipped with 17x8" wheels that fit perfectly with 285/70R17 tires on stock or leveled gen 4 1500's. Right bore and offset, etc.

Very happy with the Yokohama G015 LT that came stock with my truck. After a year still very quiet and great in all conditions.

Go here, this is a great tool for determining fit. Plug in the stock tire/wheel info in the first column, the "new" in the second. You can test fit sizes all day long. https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Ram these on my work Durango for a few months before I retired. Nice tire for P rated.
