I have a 2015 1500 4x4 crew cab with 6'4" bed (longer wheel base) and 5.7L, 3.92 gears. My back tires are worn out. So, it is finally time to do a lift and get new rims. I originally wanted a 6" Zone lift with 37x12.50 tires. But, then I saw a chart showing how that affects the gear ratio. 35s drop my truck to 3.7 gears while 37s would drop it to 3.5. For all you guys running larger than stock tires, what tires and gears are you running?

My local shop, which is just a typical mechanic and not a lift/suspension shop, quoted me over $4,200 parts and labor to change to 4.56 gears. I have not yet asked anywhere else. Does that sound reasonable?

Front:
$648 - Gear set
$ 70 - Master gear install kit
$ 39 - Lube
$783 - Labor

Rear:
$618 - Gear set
$737 - Master gear install kit
$ 47 - Lube
$841 - Labor

I'm completely ignorant of what is involved in changing gears. Why is the rear 'master gear install kit' 10x the price of the front?

You will not need to re gear I’m running 3:55’s with basically 37’s 325/60’s
I’ll let someone else get into the details with the front diff. Short explanation it can’t be done, you need a front diff from a 2010

I think that is what most are paying to regear the 4x4's ? i haven't looked much into it as i got discouraged by the price... I think after 2011 we have to buy parts from the 2011 or below truck year and have them adapted to our trucks. i'm just glad i went with 3.92's right from the get go especially because i have the 6 speed trans.

I ran 37x12.5x17 KO2s which are very very light 37's (69lbs each) on lightweight 17" wheels (30lbs each) so my total weight per corner was about 100lbs or so. I ran/offroaded the truck with that setup for about 15k miles. After a while I got tired of the MPG and the doggish acceleration with my 6 speed trans. I'm sure the acceleration will have been more decent with the 8 speed trans but it sucked with the 6 speed, i also started driving more in the city instead of the longer connmute i had before which don't get me wrong was better to a point, but that did put my mpg below 9. It was waaaaayyy cheaper to go back to 35's than doing a regear in the short/long run :) at least in my case.

My truck is 2wd so the regear was only $850 ...but I am running 37s with 4.88s and it is a huge difference ...

My MPG were actually better when I had the 3.21s and it is probably because of the way I drove it then lol .. .Now that I have the 4.88s and just recently added the Carven Competitor series it is so much fun to drive which has brought my MPG down to 13.5-14.7 ..... not bad from the 15 I was getting with the 3.21s and 37s around town ...

The MPGs do go up if I take long trips and have gone past 17 MPG when driving on the highway and I guess its because the 4.88s have no problem turning those 37s around ....

That price looks steep yes, but it is probably about the average for a 4x4 and like stated above, you will have to find an older front diff because the gears are welded on from what I have read around the web ... sucks and is probably the only reason I am glad I went with a 2wd instead of 4x4 .... I knew the re-gearing was going to be expensive with a 4x4 ...

But if you stay with 35s you will be fine especially with the 3.92s unless of course you are planning on doing a lot of towing ....

Plus you don't want to slap 37s with just a 6" lift, you will have to do a lot of trimming ... I had to trim quite a bit and I have a 7" lift lol ...

I have 3.55 with 35s... Its not a problem, and not worth the money for the regear

I agree that it’s not worth is. My 2010 with 3.55 gears and 35s has no issue.
