Hold it for about 3 seconds. It doesn't fully turn off, maybe 90-95%.

In 4wd it will shut off the stability control up to 45 mph but in 2wd it cannot be disabled with the button.

Holding it for 3 seconds is different from just pushin the button? I've just pushed the button and was able to smoke both tires with factory wheels and tires that is

Ok, what are you referring to? I took the original question as stability control and traction control, pushing the button just turns off the traction control.

The button with the skid marks. That's your traction control. When disabled it allows the wheels to spin without the computer getting in the way. So you stated in 4wd it only works up to 45mph which is probably true. If I'm in 4wd hi I'm usually not going that fast. It can be disabled in 4wd hi which is good for wheel speed when trying to get out of snow/mud/sand. 4wd low it's automatically disabled.

Ok, of you hit the button the traction control is off, and it will stay off until you turn it back on or do a key cycle. That works in any 4wd or 2wd mode at any speed. What I was referring to was if you shift into 4hi while stopped in drive you can hold the button for 5ish seconds and it will Ding and pop up onto your evic that the stability control is disabled. That will last until 45 mph.

Can you disable the stability control with your tuner? I've just found myself in a couple situations on snow covered frozen hillsides where I had the traction control off, but tires slipped, light rear end with the truck, and as soon as it hit the 45 mph under a spinning condition it shut me down, losing all my momentum. Its frustrating at times. Certainly hard to get a running start and maintain it when you need to.

Doesn't 4 lo disable the stability control?

It really isn't that bad... If you don't like it you can press the button and shut it off.

Hurricanes can't sneak up on you. You know weeks in advanced. Then You just board everything up and buy beer. Now they're bad if you live in a fishbowl below sea level like some states. Our last bad one was Opel in the 90s. Katrina, Ivan, etc didn't effect us much.

Part of the safety package along with ABS, TCS, Trailer anti-sway, etc... Stability control senses when your wheels spin at different rates, (indicating loss of control) and applies brakes to stabilize wheel speed and in theory, the vehicle. There's more to it, but that's the basics.

Traction control is the act of spinning your tires (think burn-out). Stability control generally is more of a side to side control to keep you from spinning out (over/under steer, doing doughnuts, drifting, etc)
