Looking to purchase a 2019 Ram and found one with everything I want except the trailer brake. Can a trailer brake be added on later either oem or aftermarket? Would it be cost prohibitive and maybe I should look til I find one included?

I installed the brake controller I had in my silverado in my Ram and only needed to change the harness for it is all.Works like a charm and my unit cost little over 100 bucks and a 21 dollar harness to connect it to the Ram

Curt makes a plug in brake controller. It plugs into your trailer wiring connector on the truck and the trailer plug connects to it. Control is via blue tooth on your phone. Works great and I think it's less than $200.

I’ve got a brake controller sitting on a shelf that I’ve had in three different trucks over the years. Easy to install/remove. Only four wires.

I use this and it works great. I move it from truck to truck and have used it in a Uhaul.
For your own truck I would install the factory one but I keep this in the glove box for emergencies.

I also keep this in the glove box for the Uhauls as the 2” ball is welded on their trucks even though they are rated to 10k towing.
