I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman, 5.7L V8. I was checking my trailer plug wiring harness and noticed an area that had electrical tape over the factory harness. When I removed it, I found the brown wire (park and marker lights), was cut and spliced into the wire for the license plate light wire. I checked the power to the brown wire back to the front side of the rear axle and still had no power. Has anyone else come across this issue that can tell me where to look for the starting end of that brown wire? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The wire ends at the TIPM (totally integrated power module - they really call it that !) which is a glorified fusebox. ;) Actually it uses computer controlled outputs for a lot of electrical purposes, including some of the lights. An output can fail and the TIPM is pretty expensive so I'd guess a PO did a cheap fix. However double check all the fuses, some might be labeled misleading.

are your park and marker lights on all the time like your license plate light?

Hi all, I basically had the same issue. What I found is a chaffed through wire 6 inches from the plug connector that is attached to the left front cab mount. The wire chaffed on the cab mount itself. FYI, there are 2 plug connectors located there and the smaller one has the trailer parking / running light wire.
