Im at about 77K and thinking maybe time for a tranny flush. Is that about the time to get it done? and if so what does that cost on average?

imho a transmission flush contains solvents. A exchange is just that, trans fluid, and yes filters are replaced during either method. My truck has 255,000 miles and has had only exchange done. That is the only thing that has been done to it. Maybe someone else will state their thoughts on it.

Agree only change the fluid exchange is nice because it will be almost all new fluid bit just a portion. Be careful though our trucks have two trans filters 1 flat and 1 cylinder type filter and most dealers I have heard will not change the filter unless you tell them that is what you want and pay more for it. I actually just do drain and change filters and fill and have had no issues ever. Flush and exchange systems mean big money for the dealer.

what about a diy flush. i seen a diy thread on another dodge forum on how to do it with using 20 qts of fluid. basically remove return line put a piece of rubber hose on it stick it in a bucket start truck to drain fluid replace filters install pan add 6 or 7 qts run engine until drained repeat process. i would have added the thread just not sure if its aloud to add from another forum.

My 2 Cents

IMhO a flush is warranted only if you are having issues with the tranny. The flush contains solvents, as mentioned above, and they will act on anything they touch. Gaskets, seals, o-rings... My experience with a high mileage car resulted in more leaks than I could count after a flush. My new best friend at AAMCO said he sees this all the time. Fresh fluid and new filters is better (and cheaper) than the alternative.

DO NOT! have a flush done just change the fluids and filter and your done i had a trans blow the next day after a flush and imo all it does is take the dirt and debris that are in there and blow them around inside your trans and thats why there a bad thing to have done

fluid and filter change is the way to go. if you are feeling like you need something more, as mentioned earlier. just take off your return line from the cooler and replace fluid as it empties.

more often than not, filters are not changed during a flush. all the debris inside the tranny (there is a lot, clutches wear) gets stuck in the filters, and you run a much greater chance of overheating and blowing up your tranny.
