Hey guys,

Looking for a little help here. Yesterday I decided to service my tranny, swap out some fluid and new filter. The filter kit from Advanced only came with the flat filter and not the round one too, does this make a difference? Also, the guy told me that I just need 5.5 qts to refill it cause thats all a service change drains. So, I put 5.5 qts in and ran it till "running or HOT temp" and checked it with the truck in N and parking brake applied. Dip stick showed the fluid level was just about the top "COLD" hole when it's supposed to be between the two higher "HOT" holes. I have half a qt left. Should I just pour that in there or will it overfill it? There are no leaks or anything so I guess I did good cleaning the pan and installing the solid gasket! :) Any info would be great! THANKS!

I did a total fluid change in my 97 Grand Cherokee, drove it for a week and had to add another quart after a few days of driving.

You can get a little air in there that will work it's way out after a while. Check it after a few days of driving to see if you need to add more fluid.

Was it difficult?

No because my buddy's shop did it while I went to work and sat at my desk....lol

He used a bucket to do it though. He basically put the Jeep in neutral hooked the return to a hose which emptied into the bucket as he added new fluid into the tranny.

Once you see pink fluid coming out in the bucket, everything's flushed out of there. It made a huge difference. I did a Mopar filter too while we were in there.

I believe that you should check it in park on that vehicle as that is what many of them say in the manual now.

Also I would always do both filters because that is the most important part. The fluid will virtually last forever without the contamination that the filter can prevent. I hope the filter you got is better than the cheap one at oreillys because I had the flat filter break in half and made me think the torque converter was shot.

yes, you should check the fluid level in N as it is a gear. you will get a different level when checking in park.

According to the manual not in neutral as suspected.

It states you should apply the parking brake then shift into each gear selection ending in PARK and then check level it should be at operating temp also not cold.
