Hey y'all I just purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7 with the 8HP75 transmission. Looking through the Carfax I don't see that the transmission has ever been serviced. From what I can find its recommended around 60k, however my truck is currently at 127k. The truck drives flawlessly but I want to service everything so it stays in good running order. Would it be reasonable to go ahead and service the transmission, or leave it so I don't cause damage from changing the fluid. I've primarily owned GM trucks so I'm unfamiliar with these transmissions. Thanks in advance!

If you're going to keep your truck long term you may also want to consider upgrading to a PPE aluminum pan, AND getting the @caulk04 transmission bypass valve upgrade, too. These will significantly reduce your trans temps and help to ensure your transmission has a great service life.

ONLY use either the proper MOPAR trans fluid, OR Valvoline MaxLife trans fluid, AND follow the "Green Sheet" fluid fill procedures to a "T" - this is critically important that this is done correctly!

I'm curious as to where you saw the 60 K interval recomended? By RAM?

Not by Ram... by the actual manufacturer themselves, ZF ;)

Most dealerships tell customers that the transmission fluid is not serviceable and is a lifetime fluid, which is utter nonsense!

Changing the fluid and filter is hugely important, and it's also a great time to install the @caulk04 transmission cooler bypass upgrade. It drops trans temps significantly!

Couple this upgrade with a new PPE aluminum trans pan and you'll have more fluid volume and much better temp control.

The old idea that changing fluid on an older tranny will cause it to fail is half right. Had a trans shop owner explain this to me. As the trans gets old with old fluid gunk and varnish will deposit on parts like clutches and valves that keep things from moving or slipping. Kinda holds stuff together. When you change the fluid you are also giving it new detergents and friction reducers. They remove the gunk and stuff and make everything slip like older worn part tend to do. Yes it may slip and need a rebuild after a fluid change, but it was destined to fail soon anyway. If the trans is working fine it won't hurt anything.

Tranny Guy here.... DO NOT flush! Drain & fill will NOT cause failure (unless it was on the way out to begin with) Use the recommended fluid, NOT what the NAPA guy recommends.... Temperature KILLS trannys, deep aluminum pan is a plus.

I plan on tranny fluid change soon, with a new PPE pan for sure.

How do I know if that cooler bypass upgrade will work on my truck?

If you have the 8spd trans it will work.
I would opt for both the bypass valve and the aluminum plug.
https://yourautohuckleberry.com/store/ - is the place to purchase, and installations are straight forward.

I have personally purchased over half-dozen of them for myself and family & friends
@caulk04 has a distributor (named above) and he is solid to work with.
I have purchased from him several times and it is always spot on service and quick delivery of the goods.

Last year I purchased a 2022 RAM 1500 HEMI with 2,500 miles
Today at 14k mikes.

Trans shifts smooth as butter but since day one, there has been clicking sounds when stopped and initial forward/reverse.

Is this normal?

My warranty is about to expire next month.
Do i purchase an extended warranty???

I want to get the PPE Pan and Bypass Valve - but - will that void a extended warranty from Mopar???

From my personal experience, both brand new Ram 1500's of mine (19' and now my 23') were 1-liter+ low on trans fluid right from the factory. The transmission just wasn't feeling 100% to me, and I'm pretty good at knowing my vehicles and how they run. I had the dealership check them and they filled them up properly as per the "Green Sheet", and updated all the computer systems as well. Then I took my rig out and drove it like I stole it to ensure no granny mode was present, and all was good ;)

I would take your truck in while it's still under factory warranty and ensure that they check for any transmission and system updates, AND physically check the current fluid level as well (also ensure they are checking the fluid level properly with the "transmission" being level and at the correct temp).

The trans cooler bypass won't void your warranty as they'll never see it (technically it does though).
The new larger aluminum trans pan is obvious and if they aren't a "cool" dealership, they'd surely give you nothing but grief (my dealership is awesome and wouldn't balk one iota for me, and they haven't at all for anything I've done, including a custom mandrel bent y-pipe ;))

As for extended warranty... meh, I have personally never purchased one.
My 3yr/60,000km bumper to bumper and my 5yr/100,000km powertrain warranty is all I need.
However, I do have an exceptional dealership to work with, and mileage really doesn't concern me because it really doesn't concern them ;)). - Tough call to make for you, Brother.

If your truck has been reliable to date, then I'd not waste a dime.
Do your transmission/transfer case/differentials/coolant/brake fluid/spark plugs/PCV valve/throttle body & intake services (including tightening the bolts as they are known to come loose and cause drivability issues) - brake caliper services - replace the idler & tensioner pulleys and serpentine belt, etc.... and have a great ownership experience.

Thank you for the info.

Will take it to a dealer this week.

Dealership will take my 22 1500 on April 22 for trans inspection.

GREAT NEWS = My 2022 was initially Sold in May 2024 = this gives me 3/36 Warranty until May 2027

No need for a Extended Warranty

Will do the PPE upgrade with the High-Flow upgrade after they diagnose and correct the Trans in April.

I would print the ZF fluid change procedure from above and take it to your appointment.

Personally, I would want to witness them raise the rear end and verify the tranny is level, at a minimum.

You just can't trust people to follow procedures these days, especially anything that requires more than a minimal effort.

I've been thinking about doing this procedure soon, as it will be time in the next year.
The only way I will consider paying someone to change the pan (PPE+) and fluid is if I can watch up close. Same for the fluid level verification.

Otherwise, I'm doing it myself.
