Hi guys, well my tranny took a dump on my 03 dodge ram 1500, and i was told that these trannies suck, since i have to fix it i was wondering if there something i can do to upgrade it to make it last longer and handle more power, i was also told that i could use a tranny from a 2500 since there built stronger im not sure though... any info will help.. also i do kind of drive my truck agressive, i take it to the track once in while, so i guess what im looking for is for a better performance tranny.. i found this website that sell performance trannys what do you guys think...btw my tranny is a 46RE.. PATC 46RE 47RE 48RE Transmissions, Performance Transmission A518, 518

I dunno, earlier Ram transmissions did suck, but the 45/545rfe I think is pretty much on par with anything Ford or GM have in a gasser truck. I don't see many failing at all unless they are pretty high mileage or have had a hard life and/or a lot of aftermarket HP & Torque thrown at them.

And yeah, throw a bigger pan like a PML or MagHytec and you basically have a 2500 tranny...
