There have many posts on valve body and sensor problems with 48RE. You should try researching this forum for those replies. I have 155K on my 48RE and have not had shift issues but at the most recent fluid change there was a lot of black debris in the pan. Clutch discs are going bad so I'm looking for a rebuilder before it gives out completely. Also the Turbo Diesel Register Forum has a great amount of info on these. Many on that forum have upgraded their valve bodies due to towing heavy or increasing HP above stock. If you have to rebuild yours be sure to upgrade the torque converter to a billet converter as well. You might also list the miles on the tranny and your use so we know if you at the end of life with it.
