Help. I had the trans rebuilt and now on the first start of the day it won't shift out of first. After shutting it off a couple times and going in reverse it shifts fine.

What year, make, and model truck and what engine?

The first thing that needs to happen now is to have a scan tool connected to the truck and the CVI's, or Clutch Volume Index, needs to be checked. The CVI's can tell us if a particular clutch is requiring too much fluid to engage that clutch.

Did you remove and install the transmission or did you have a shop perform the work?

If you performed the remove and install did you perform a Quick Learn with a scan tool? If a shop performed the work I would ask them if they did a Quick Learn after installing the transmission.

If you didn’t use a scan tool than the transmission hasn’t been relearned and that is most likely your issue

Sorry I didn't see your post. Since you have a 5.9 Magnum gas engine your truck has the 46RE. The QuickLearn procedure does not apply to the 46RE.

What did you do to the trans while you had it out? Did you swap it out with another unit or did you overhaul your trans?

A better question would be did you flush the trans cooler? If not the crap from the old trans could now be in your new trans causing all kinds of havoc. That kind of neglect ususally ends in shifting problems.
