I'm sure someone else has had this problem, but in the morning when I go to drive my truck, in either reverse or foward, I initially have to give it a lot of gas to get it to move. Its like the torque isn't there. But once it gets moving, the torque is back and there is no more problems.
The trans fluid has been recently changed along with the filter and everything seems to be working fine.
This has been going on for atleast a year and I'm stumped and a little buzzed right now off of miller lite.
Any input would help.

Next time, when you get into your truck, before you drop her into reverse and move it, put it down into neutral for about 15 seconds or so, then try it in reverse and see how it does.

Does your truck still have the check valve in the trans cooler line?

Happenes to me all the time, also for drive. But only happenes if i start the truck and immediately put it into gear. If i start it and let it idle for about 5seconds it wont happen. I think it might be because when it sits all the trans fluid runs to the pan and hasnt recirculated enough. Thats the only time it happens to me.

That's actually what the check valve in the cooling line is to prevent from happening. Those of us who removed it, have to slide it down into neutral for a couple seconds to get the trans fluid flowing.

It's usually worse in colder weather. The fluid just has to get moving. Neutral for a few seconds should do the trick.

2 of our dodge fire trucks are diesels with the auto trans (98 and 00) they both do that when we fire them up and go when we get called out. Just a dodge auto trans thing.

Thanks guys.
Putting it into neutral for a few seconds fixed the problem.
Just wanted to make sure it was nothing serious.
