I have a 97 ram 1500 with a 5.2L in it. i am the original owner and have always loved the truck. For the past 4 or 5 years i have treated it poorly. Due to my job placing me in a poor predicament. they had me traveling 42 miles to work and 42 miles home totaling out to be 84 miles a day even though there's a plant 6 miles from my house. since i had to travel so far i couldn't afford the fuel so i got a car with better fuel mileage and put the truck in the back yard, started it up at least once a week but otherwise left it covered and haven't started it since last fall. now due to better circumstances and a couple of great lawyers i now work in the plant 6 miles from my house. I'm gonna begin getting it road worthy once again. i charged the battery, jumped in and started her up. she started right up but sounded a little week. i gave it gas and the rpm's shot right up to normal operation. when i released the pedal though the rpm's went real low and the truck stalled out. i did the same thing again and had the same result. 3rd time i started her up i decided to throw it into drive and run it. it felt sluggish when i stepped on the gas but none the less ran and when i released the pedal, non surprisingly it stalled out. now i believe the fuel might have a big role to play with it only because the fuel is 4 years old. im gonna drain the tank, add some fresh fuel along with a bottle of stabilizer. change the oil. of course filters. pcv valve/ hose. etc... the works. and maybe even sea foam it. just wondering what some of you think of the situation and if any of ya have even been in the same predicament

Don't bother adding fuel stabilizer at this point. I'd recommend clean gas and sea foam see if that'll clean it up.
