Hi everyone. I've been having trouble with my truck lately it's flashing the ETC light on the dash. It's having trouble starting. I have a 2011 dodge ram 1500 longhorn edition with 5.7L hemi. I just replaced the throttle body and still doesn't want to start. But wait! Sometimes it will. Haha. When it does start it will continue turning on all day. When I park for the night it won't start again. When it does decide to turn on it sounds like the fuel pump kicks on and then it starts. So I've been opening my hood and and listening for that sound. I checked all the fuses and relays. They are all good. It picks and chooses when to start. Any ideas or hints as to where I can start to fix this? Thanks

I had a problem similar with my 2011 BigHorn, had it towed to the dealer and found I needed a new fuel pump. Again at that time I had 110,000 miles on it.

Put your head near the fuel tank and have someone put the key in ACC position , you should hear the pump in the tank , it should be smooth and verry quiet . If it's loud or pulsating you need to replace it !
If it's not running in ACC smack the bottom of the tank with a mallet , it may start running then , LOL I did this for 2 weeks till I had time to replace the pump & filter assy on my old truck ...

Thanks guys. I tried something. I went and got some starter spray and sprayed some in the intake. The truck started but was knocking bad. Then it went away. Let it idle for a bit now it starts up. I'm at a loss. Could it be the fuel pump?

I don't think that's under warranty so it may be cheaper to go to a shop. The only reason I had it done at the dealership, was I wanted to keep the historupy of dealer maintenance going.

The dealership told me that's what it was. Also, when I Google ETC warning light the majority of the videos is about the throttle body needing to replaced. Turns out the old one is prob still good.

Wow ! Not much can go wrong with your throttle body , especially for starting .
If you sprayed starting fluid in and it started ( rough or not ) your likely just not Getting fuel pump priming pressure and the reason it's most dificult to start after sitting for the night is your fuel has more time to drain back into the tank , so you have air only in the fuel line at the engine end .

I would go pick up a new pump & filter assy @ an auto parts store and when you're about 1/8 tank og Gass , drop the fuel tank and change it .
Do you smell Gass when starting in the morning , or while running ?

If you are a 2WD it's easier to pull the bed off and change the pump assy from the top while the tank is still installed.
6-8 body bolts , fuel filler port clamp and tail light & bumper wire disconnect and a buddy to help lift the bed off . I know that sounds extreme but it's easier than dropping the tank imo. Unless you have a lift ![emoji3]
I've done this a few times on 2wd models .[emoji106]
Good luck !
