Who here has actually followed the recommend spark plug and trans fluid change on their 5.7s... I just bought a used 11 1500 sport and am about to take a trip to FL from NJ in it.. I'm debating on taking it in to do a tune up.. Spark plugs, trans fluid, cabin filter.. The whole 9.. But after it's all said and done it's going to run me around 1k..

If I had the time I'd do it myself.. So I laughed at the guy when he told me.. He said they were going to replace some valve and fuel filter too and like two other things too.. Dealership want 600 for just the trans and plugs only..

I don't think your truck came stock with a cabin filter. Try to find a tech at the local dealership that does some work on the side. There seems to be plenty of them around. It could save you a ton of money. If you go that route----save all the sale slips.

Unfortunately you really should do the plugs. it would be ok to do your trip, when you get back just do it. order your plugs from Moes or someone who has them, you want to make sure to get the right type. Hemi's use plugs like no other engine. Save almost 500 bucks do it yourself, it isn't that hard just time consuming.

Yeah I've done plugs and tune ups before.. The problem is the time for me.. Now I gotta ask what moes is... I've had a titan the last couple year and a wrangler before that.. Over the years I've noticed every vehicle group has different "parts people" to go to..

Ahh.. Using tapatalk.. I don't have an add up there.. I will have to get on the ol computer for that..

Comparing the two would be like comparing whiskey to beer.. Both get the job done.. Both taste good.. deep pockets are needed to really enjoy both.. The biggest difference I've noticed is the titan had WAY more pep to it.. Felt like it was built for off road.. It just felt tough.. The ram is way smoother of a ride.. And feels almost like a luxury vehicle and is "pretty" as my wife puts it..

$1K sounds decent, as least for my area here in Ontario, Canada where everything is overpriced. I'm not due for anything on my 2011 5.7 yet, but while I was in for an oil change I got some prices, all are estimates:

Tune up: $315
4x4 service: $523 (axles + tcase)
Trans service: $122

NUTS eh!

I don't have a cabin filter in my 2011 SXT.

I use Amsoil fluids, and when the time comes I'll save $600 on labour and another $200 on overpriced dealer fluid and parts. What's worse is that dealers are rather competitive in this area with local shops, but I find that dealers won't drop their prices (to match smaller shops) to obtain the business.

As bamablack11 mentioned, the Ram doesn't really drive like a truck. I had a 2000 Durango R/T for 11 years, and a 1990 C1500 before that and both of those vehicles rode similar. The Durango was a bit rough, but that's what I bought it for - to hit the trails on weekends while still being able to tow 3 tons. Maintenance was a breeze, and parts were everywhere.

Where did you have this done? Spark plug boots don't need to be replaced. Doesn't have spark plug wires. Doesn't have a fuel filter. You may have been had.

Maybe.. They originally quoted me at 799 and listed everything over the phone and I walked out the door for 650.. I reckon I need to look at the invoice.. This is the one ****y part about buying vehicles.. You have to relearn everything quickly or potentially get jiped on something..

Hope those iridium plugs don't give you a problem. The early 4th gen hemis usually use copper plugs. These hemis can be finicky with plugs. Like they said no boots or wires. They use coils. There is no cabin filter in the 4th gens either. It's a mod you can do yourself for under $30.

Boots? Wires? Fuel filter? wow. Did he replace your muffler bearing too? who is this guy?? Dude, your truck has none of these. If there is a price for parts on your invoice you got had, id go back immediately and have him point out on your truck where these parts are and how he replaced them when he discovers with you that they don't exist.. I hate MFers that do this to people..

Go back today and ask questions. Your invoice should not be over 400 bucks as he could not of replaced anything except the plugs, and air filter. Honestly I would pull out one of the packs and check if they are infact iridiums.. BTW they should be coppers or Platinums. I dont think Hemis like Iridiums
