This isn't Ram specific. Actually on a 2005 Mustang. If you install a tune using a handheld tuner and lose the tuner what are your options? Can the stock file be restored or recovered? I'm looking at a 2005 Mustang that based on mods has to have a custom tune but the seller (dealer) knows nothing about it and there is no tuner. Car runs great as is though.

If you needed a stock file the fastest way would be to take it to a Ford dealership and have them perform a flash update on the PCM to return it to stock.

If you wanted to go another route you could look through the HP Tuners Tune Repository and see if you could locate a stock tune file from another user that has a car like yours.

If it were me, I would have a Ford dealership flash the PCM with the stock software and then take the car to a reputable tuner and have them tune the car and save your stock file.

Just out of curiosity, what modifications does that car have that would require a tune?

It doesn't have crazy mods but has aftermarket cams that they call 'Hot Rod' cams. Also has a Ford racing intake manifold and Ford Racing throttle body. In ads both of those say they require a custom tune. Also has shorty headers and a CAI.

I have Forscan which is similar to AlfaOBD. Do you know if the stock file can be downloaded? They offer it for download for the BCM but not sure about for the ECU.

If you just want to download the stock tune file and you do not know the part number of the software or the OS Build info you can go here...

This will get you a stock tune based on the VIN and how the vehicle was built from Ford.
