I just upgraded from a 2012 to a 2017 Big Horn with Uconnect and the 8-inch touchscreen radio. I was really looking forward to finally having steering wheel radio controls like my wife's Corolla so I would no longer have to reach over to the radio to change the station. Imagine my disappointment when I found that the steering wheel radio tuning rocker buttons only tune up and down by individual frequency, rather than cycle through the presets. Who actually does that or wants to do that? Those buttons seem useless to me like that. The middle button advances to the next preset, and that's fine, but there doesn't seem to be a way to go back. I have to either cycle through the next 12 presets just to go back one, or reach over to the radio to choose a preset? Seems to defeat the purpose of steering wheel controls to me.

Is there a way to change the function of the rocker switch so it will cycle through the presets rather than tune by frequency? After searching I can't seem to find any solutions here, so apparently either it's an easy fix that I'm just not seeing, or it's surprisingly something nobody else seems bothered by.

what i do if i want to go back to 1 is to tune up and then press the middle so it goes back to preset 1. i do this with xm too

edit: i agree, its really not a good implementation. who uses steering wheel to tune through frequencies

Push the middle circle button on the back of the left side... not the up and down. Should jump through your presets.
^ this.

It really should be the other way around in my brain. I would rather go up or down to my stations and "seek" in one direction but hey at least I'm not reaching I guess.

Yeah I know the middle button moves through the presets, but it only moves in one direction. I was hoping to be able to go back as well.
Judging by the answers it looks like there's no way to "fix" this. I tried the trick of seeking up then hitting the middle button to go back to preset 1 and advancing from there, but that's such a pain I'd honestly rather just reach over to the radio.

So I guess my solution, such as it is, is this. I just reordered my stations from most preferred to least preferred. It's not what I was hoping for (call me strange, but one of the biggest things I was looking forward to in this truck was using the steering wheel buttons to navigate my presets - it was just so nice to do in my old Saturn Sky and my wife's Corolla!), but I guess it'll work.

Thanks for the responses. This is so far the biggest complaint I have about the truck, so I guess I'm doing alright!

I honestly forget they are even back there most of the time... until I drive with my knee and turn the volume down
