After doing a million google searches, downloading the owners manual, and watching a ton of YouTube videos, I need to ask this question here because I haven’t been able to find the answer.

I installed a used OEM 730N the other day. I unlocked it, paired my phone and set my home state. (It came from a 2012 Ram in MO)

After activating Sirius XM, I attempted to find a way to get the gps to update to my current location. I thought it would do that after activating Sirius... It shows that I’m in MO. I pushed the ‘my current location’ button and it still says MO.
I purchased the latest map update disk from U-Connect yesterday, so I have a little while until that gets here.

Does anyone here know how to either reset the gps to show current location or program it somehow? I already set my default state but it hasn’t had any effect. It’s receiving satellite signals just fine and the radio reception (and sound quality) is ten times better than my old basic OEM unit. So far, I’m VERY happy with this stereo.

Does it take a while for this to naturally update it’s location, or am I in need of some kind of reset? Thanks in advance for any input.

This problem seems to have worked itself out. It’s now showing current location & local maps.

Self contained GPS systems cache in memory the surrounding area of the last know GPS location. When you take the system many miles away from last know location, it has to reacquire the signal for new location and then the GPS system has to repopulate the cache memory with the new location and surrounding area and that takes some time depending on the system.

Your system with a physical hard drive takes even longer for it to write that cache to disk.

Thanks for explaining that. I had no idea.

I also forgot, another part of it is the satellites it is looking for. When you get an acquired signal, there is between 4-8 satellites over a given area of your location providing a signal. These satellites and their assign number is static.

When going to another location many miles away, the 4-8 satellites for that location are on another numbering assignment and when you first turn on your GPS, it is searching it's last location satellites for some time which are no longer there and then times out and receives the new satellites signal and data. Then your cache information has to repopulate.
