UAQ map updates question

OK, so just for my own information today I called Infotainment and asked questions about a UAQ radio. I asked them..........

"so if I buy a radio from you and the maps are 2018 how do I get updated maps in say 2019, 2020 if I have no communication link to FCA?".

The response by Infotainment was that I could go to a RAM Dealer for updates and have them load them on a flash drive. Does this sound right? How would you get a map update if the truck only came with a RA1 non Uconnect radio?? Or do you just always have only what the UAQ came with?

Mike G explained it to me but somehow I don't think I remember his answer correctly, lol.

Sounds about right. Maps can be updated via a flash drive, not over the air so no uconnect needed. Just FYI, those updates won't be free, you will pay for them (a ridiculous amount no doubt).

OK. Just deciding if I should go Nav or not? If I could never get an update then I would go non-Nav and just use Waze or Google Maps. It was just for the times when I have no cell service which is frequently where I live.
Is the capability to get the updates built into the Truck? the radio? or both? I know my local dealer is not going to load anything on a drive for me. And my selling dealer service dept attitude is not much better so I do my own stuff except for warranty and LOF for service record documentation.

My Wife's 2018 UAQ says it is up to date, yet when we drive a road home that does not exist, (has been moved for 6 years)
(it is funny to see it showing her van driving through an empty field)
FCA say it has the latest maps.

she hates it when driving in the city (when it is needed because the St Louis, where she needs it) as the maps are 5-7 years old, many highways exits have been rebuilt.
