I have tried several version of the software as well as several 16gb drives and cannot for the life of me get the thing to upgrade. I will get through the reboot portion but start out at 90% when it gets to 95 it reboots and comes back up saying that it read the usb and there is an update available.

So to those who have successfully done this via usb what are are the settings that you are formatting the drives at? I know there are 3 choices of FAT and 5 versions of bit allocation. I am wondering if this might be my issue.

Have you checked to see what the version shows in the settings on the radio? I think it did that to me. There can’t be anything else on the USB and it has to be on a USB stick that is more than 4 GB but less than 16 GB if I remember the website correctly. I have an 8GB USB that is only used for that.

There are two things I know from experience.Format must be FAT 32 and not every brand USB stick will work.I know that the ONN brand available at Walmart will work. Also the lower capacity sticks can be an issue 32G works great.Hope this helps

I tried 2 different sticks and went out and bought another. I'll make sure it is FAT32 and not just the default and give it another go.

The only things on the USB are the files for the upgrade.

Appreciate the help

Make sure the usb stick contains only the five files for the upgrade, no other files, and make sure all the files are at the root of the usb stick and NOT inside a folder.

best,
DG

Tried several usb drives formatted in fat32 still no dice. What I am seeing is that there are 2 types of update zips. One contains the vp4r_update folder and others that contain that folder plus 4 other files. Publickey.cer, manifest.sig, manifest.xml, second.ifs. It seems that the update that just contains the vp4r_update folder is the one the radio says is comparable. The one with the 5 files in the zip it says it is not? Ideas on that ?
