Got this email a few days ago and it caught my attention. $150 off the $600 navigation.

I’ve thought I’ve read somewhere this is not the exact same gps navigation that comes from the factory, but I can’t confirm. Anybody know?

I know you have to pay for the map updates and I could get a way better gps portable unit like TomTom or Garmin for way less than $450...so I’m kinda on the fence.

Get factory or have something attached to the dash.

Has anybody bought the navigation upgrade after they bought the truck?

Would like to hear some thoughts if you should or shouldn’t get the unconnected navigation installed.

I guess it would all be a matter a personal preference whether or not you wanted to activate your Maps on your RA3. I've always felt the regular price to activate the RA3 is a little ridiculous. If you want the factory navigation I would personally recommend just buying an RA4 and installing it in your truck. The RA4 has features the RA3 does not such as Travel Link, Real-Time Traffic,HD radio and of course it also has navigation. You can pick them up for $450 to $550 pretty consistently on eBay. You can then easily sell you're RA3 for around $300 to $350 to recoup most of your money. You don't need to purchase anything extra or do anything except plug in your new radio and it will work. I see posts sometimes of people saying the factory navigation does not work well and they would rather have a TomTom Garmin or whatever. I totally understand that people have preferences but the navigation in my truck works great. I use it all the time the voice commands are always spot-on and it rarely makes mistake on how it navigates me. I do always keep my maps updated though to whatever version they currently have.

Of you end up buying one make sure it's out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Ram. When you go on eBay or car-part.com a lot of them are advertised incorrectly because wrecking yards don't know there's a difference between the radios. Make sure you see a picture of the sticker on the back of the radio and it should say VP4 NA. The NA stands for North America. This is the unit you want. I recommend trying to find one out of a 16 or 17 because it will already have the updated screen themes that you're used to. Make sure you get the VIN number of the truck it came out of so in the future you can update your firmware if necessary. It might sound a little confusing but it's really quite simple. If you have any questions shoot me a p.m. before you buy any radio and I'll help you out to make sure you get the right one.

If you decide to go with a portable GPS don't get Tom Tom, unless you want to get lost. Garmin is much better! Also, pay extra for the lifetime maps, it's well worth it!!

I got it for free when I bought my truck last year, used from a kia dealer. It is because they bought the navigation or because my truck is a maple leaf model lol.

Is there any way to sync the factory GPS with a calendar? By far my favorite feature with my smart phone is to have my schedule and addresses pop up automatically so I rarely have to enter an address.

simple answer no, but if you pay for u-connect you can send it via the u-connect app to the truck so you dont have to input it on the screen.
